I believe the battle Royale is F2P already.

Yes, the battle royale is F2P with purchase of any of the games. Actually the main reason I wanted to try it out, as I'm a little bored with PUBG, so unsure of the game play other than reviews.

Battle Royale is F2P without having to buy any of the packages. You dont need to purchase anything to play BR version.

Yeah battle Royale is free to play we all know that but the entire game is suppose to go free. It even mentions it right there on Xbox live, however it still has the date of just 2018. I'm more interested in the regular mode.

Fortnite will be free-to-play at some point in 2018.
Guys, they haven't announced a date, yet. As of now, it is simply expected at some point this year.

Battle Royale is free right now. Purchase the PVE version if you want to support the dev, or don't feel like waiting.

I dont think so. I was able to play it on Playstation 4 without a PS+ membership.

Totally on the same boat with you. Came from PUBG and now playing Fortnite a little more now. The games in Fortnite are just quicker and you care less if you die. Huge fan of PUBG but they still have FPS inconsistency issues (even on my gtx 1080) and they cannot resolve their hacker issues. PUBG maps are too big as well which you will realize once you play more Fortnite.

Overall I still like both games, Fortnite is just a care less game and easier to win in squads. You don't feel as satisfied as you do when you frag someone vs in PUBG it feels more satisfying.
