Damb I thought this was going to be the semi-hollowbody 335 style and I had begun to fish out my credit card.

Wait a second it is a semi hollowbody. Jeez. Any case come with it?

I got it last time in blonde color and it did come with a very nice hardcase. Highly recommended. Going for much more than $799 used on ebay.

Got it, and signed up for the MF credit card with 12-month no interest promotion. $66 per month painlessly. With a nice hardcase! YASSSS

This should be FP over most of the other junk listed. Wonderful guitar series.

I really like D'Angelico. I went to their HQ in New York and they treated me and my friend very well. I can't say enough good about them. With that said, these semi-hollows have been selling on Musician's Friend for this price quite a lot recently. So, if the blacked out model isn't your thing, don't hesitate to wait. I personally prefer the models with the cool D'Angelico art-deco pickguard. Still, this more stealth model is cool too. Finally, they may be listed for more on eBay, but at $800, this is a guitar that you maybe could get $650 for if you worked hard. Once you own it, it is used, even if you never play it. I'd buy this one to keep, not for arbitrage.

I tried one at my local Sam Ash store and fell in love.

For anyone on the fence, I would recommend calling your local GuitarCenter or SamAsh for a price match and that way you get 30 days return and no return-shipping cost.

I got an EXL-1 and that guitar is no joke, one of the best I've played. Beats most American made I've tried.

Definitely a front page deal at this price!

sorry, I just had to laugh at this turn of phrase.

This quilted black color is super cool looking and I honestly think I would have chosen it even if all the colors were on sale. As for these appararing on MF at this price all the time. I don't think so. I saw one at one of the hourly sales on Black Friday, I think that was a 335 style. So, these CAN be had for a good price but it's not like epiphone les Paul's on sale.

I was back and forth on this (haven't actually played one). Came back to get it anyway, and the deal looks dead. Frown

Look back at the Twitter feed for Musicians Friend and you will see the blue one and a sunburst have been recently on sale at this same price. And yes, I'm playing some with Slickdealers by saying "don't hesitate" ... to wait. I think the advice I gave is pretty sound. if you wait, the others will be on sale soon enough. MF has been good about having D'Angelico sales this past year.

Yes I see that the Excel Series DC was on sale for $749 on December 29, how did I miss that ?

So I have a question: I ordered the one sale in this thread, the SS series, but maybe I should hold out for the DC series, since it is closer to a 335 (with a solid block of wood in the middle)?

I would like a versatile guitar suitable for some rock and blues and not just jazz. What do you think?

fueradeljuego, the one I put to the test had a very respectable range of tone from the pups.

When in doubt, try it out and wait for the next sale.

Peace
