Hey Folks, looks like Amazon has a backorder special for the Surefire Sidekick at $39.99. Normal price is $79.99 and even discounted it's $55. All colors (Black, Pink, White) are on sale.

Before you start moaning about the price for a "keychain" light, this is a 300 Lumen multi-mode light with a built-in rechargeable battery and built-in charger (charges via Micro USB port).

And here's the link to the manufacture's website for the product:

From Surefire's Website:

This ultra-compact, powerful LED illuminator was created so it could be carried and used by everyone. The rechargeable Sidekick was designed to attach to keys so it's always available and, most importantly, ready for everyday use and emergencies. This polymer-bodied light features three levels of output that will provide security and peace of mind, no matter what. On high and operated just like a key FOB, its wide, smooth 300-lumen MaxVision Beam™ illuminates all dark areas at night, providing peace-of-mind navigation with a useful range well past 50 meters. Its medium- and low-output settings, 60 and 5 lumens respectively, offer much more runtime and more than enough light for reading, close-up work, or even navigating outdoors while preserving dark-adapted vision.

Sidekick is ideal for everyone, even children, keeping in mind that the light output from a typical smartphone doesn't offer one percent of the light output and it drains all-important smartphone battery power. This tiny, lightweight light, which can also be carried in a pocket or purse, is easily rechargeable via its micro-USB port using a vehicle or wall charger. Protect yourself and your family—own the one and only Sidekick—something everyone should have at their disposal.

Features
- High-performance LED and special faceted reflector produce broad, smooth MaxVision Beam™ optimized for the human eye.

- Easy click-type switch permits access to all 3 output levels with repeated presses
Micro-USB charging port permits simple recharging of integral Li-ion battery
Compact, lightweight polymer body is weather resistant; features split ring for easy attachment to keys or carabiner clips.

- Always-accessible light provides countless utility uses, including emergency preparedness.

- Backed by SureFire's No-Hassle One-Year Guarantee

Doesnt seem like a slick deal. The Nitecore TIP at 360 lumens was less than $20 AC a while ago at GearBest.

Reviews from Amazon indicate that the battery goes bad after 12-14 months and will no longer hold the charge.

Since the battery is not user replaceable and SureFire support is non-existent (per the review), I'll pass.

So the overwhelming positive reviews (75% 5-Star) doesn't mean anything? I've never had a issue with Surefire's customer support. I sent in two different X300-B's after they broke due to use (one got slammed on concrete which broke the switch but still worked, the other one had the front glass broken after it landed just perfectly on a pointed rock, go figure.) In both cases, not only did Surefire replace the ENTIRE LIGHT, they replaced with them with newer, brighter X300-U's. That's customer service.

Not the same product but ok. Kia's are cheaper than Toyota's but a good deal on a Toyota is still a good deal, no?
Read this on how SureFire not honoring Black Friday deal. This is from 2017 and affected thousands of customer. https://slickdeals.net/f/10948879-surefire-6px-pro-tactical-light-1-for-38-2-for-52-s-h?page=23

What's wrong with NiteCore? I have both SureFire and NiteCore and they're both pretty good.

So Surefire is persona non grata here? How many other companies have done something similar? I know I've been part of buys that were cancelled or delayed forever. I suppose no more AT&T deals then? AT&T does this all the time.

Nothing is wrong with Nitecore per se but it's not a exact 1:1 comparison. If Gearbest was selling SF Sidekicks for $25 then that's one thing, but it's a completely different product and the it's no longer $20 anyways.

Who said that? I didn't say that. This is a public forum. Anyone is entitled to their own opinions. The Black Friday debacle pissed of many people but it doesn't mean it's no longer welcome in Slickdeals. Do you have proof I or anyone kn SD said that?

No, you give example of Kia and Toyota, implying that NiteCore is of lesser quality. Otherwise, why are you comparing it with Kia?

I never said that anyone said it directly, but to me, it seems implied since you brought up a deal that has nothing to do with this deal especially since this is being sold and shipped by Amazon, not Surefire.

Because Nitecore, like Kia, isn't the same quality as Surefire, like Toyota. That's not to say that Kia makes terrible cars, they're not, but they're not quite Toyotas. I too own both (I own lots of Nitecore items actually) and I don't think the TIP is as nice as the Sidekick in terms of quality or design.

How many of those 5-star reviews are after long term usage and how many are short term usage. Typically reviewed are provided shortly after receiving/testing a product.

His comment was based on reviewers providing an update after 12-14 months, not 2-4 weeks. Comments based on initial perception do not really have any direct correlation to longevity of the battery.

Not all of the positive reviews are short term. There are a few that I saw that were long term reviews. That's being said, my personal experience with Surefire's customer service (and other people I know who have gone through Surefire's CS) has been stellar.

Like I said, this is a public forum. Anyone can provide their take on a particular deal, product or website. See that thumbs up/down button? That's what it used for.

I never said Sure "...is persona non grata here". You did.

I have Fenix, NiteCore, SureFire and Streamlight. I found each has its own quality issues, including customer service. They're comparable in my own opinion.

But you are saying that NiteCore is of a lesser quality (given your comparison with Kia and Toyota). Do you have any link or proof of that? If yes, please provide it here for us SD-ers.

However, the debacle of SureFire Black Friday is the biggest blunder because they promote a product on discount, delayed the order, and then cancelled it weeks after. No response provided by SureFire. That's just bad. You can Google it yourself.

Here's one: http://toolguyd.com/surefire-cybe...al-fiasco/

At the end of the day, you can post whatever deal you want in here and people are free to criticize. No need to be defensive and say something like "So Surefire is persona non grata here?"
