A display of voltage does not determine the health of a battery. Nor does it tell the amperage of the alternator output.

Sure this does tell you the voltage but that's only half of a possible charging/battery issue.

Well, I had a similar unit. The way I was using it, I was comparing the voltage drop during the operation (engine on) and when the vehicle was off. When the difference is small (or dip below v12 during operation), the battery might not be ok. Not a perfect example but that was my strategy. Nowadays my strategy is driving new cars and not care about symptoms the older cars go through.

Edit: This was a while ago, my recollection might not be 100%.

Spend $5 more on an obd2 scan tool and use an app. Much more useful.
