They really watered down their rewards program. With their limited amount of hotels, much better focusing on SPG

Just checked out of a Hyatt this morning... I should have registered for this sooner Frown
Thanks for the post OP. I stay at Hyatt weekly as it's one of the few Egencia (required to book through for work) allows me to earn points from.

When did they water it down? Spg does it more often. And now their latest devaluation with marriott merger in mind was very bad.

They do it every year, but they just don't announce it like the other hotel chains. You'd have to spend 60 nights to get to the Globalist level, which is very difficult to do considering their limited portfolio of hotels. SPG requires only 50 nights to hit Platinum, and the status match to Marriott makes it much more appealing.

Hyatt = 650+ properties
Spg/Marriott = 5,700+ properties

The status qualification has nothing to do with free nights you can get with promos. It is way easier and better to get free nights from Hyatt than from SPG. I am Hyatt Globalist and SPG platinum btw. And yes the 60 nights a year sucks really bad, this might be my last year as globalist unless they do the 20 night promo at the end of the year again.

I am a globalist as well, took advantage of the Q4 promotion last year, but due to the lack of hotels it's been really difficult to utilize the perks. For an instance, the suite upgrades don't work for the Hyatt place/house. I signed up for the spg platinum status challenge

I have been Diamond/globalist for 3 years and spg plat for 4. Hyatt diamond is much better BUT there are so few hotels. And for business I usually stay at hyatt place/house which dont have any benefits (just like it would be on spg element or aloft). There are a lot more sheratons and westin all the time and marriotts for sure.

However the benefits when you travel for leisure are so muuuuuuch better with Hyatt, you can get free nights super fast, you dont pay any resort or parking fees, you get full breakfast, confirmed suite upgrades, they treat you like royalty all the time. Spg platinum is good but not as great and to get the free nights you have to spend a lot of money... aspirational properties are 90k points most of the time and you earn 3 points per dollar. So $30k dollars for 1 night. Hyatt is 30k points max and you get 6.5 points per dollar and there are always good promos like 1k points per night. You usually spend arround $2k to get a top hotel free night. I would say:

1. Hyatt Globalist
2. Spg Platinum
3. Marriott Platinum
4. Hilton Diamond
5. IHG Spire

Not sure where you're getting 90k points for spg. Spg cat 7 hotels are 30k same as Hyatt. The best way to maximize spg points is to convert them into Marriott points at 3:1 then redeem it for the Hotel + flight package. It's well discussed in FlyerTalk that spg points are the most valuable/versatile point system out there.

Working toward this package deal myself. It's killer, especially when you account for the airline miles.

Yup! Pretty easy to rack up when u take advantage of the credit card sign up offers. 80k for Marriott and 25k for SPG then convert it to 75k Marriott, total 155k!

Agreed. The Marriott Plat. challenge makes getting Plat. status very achievable.
