[QUESTION] Southwest airlines 50% extra deal with purchase of more than 5000 points

How is this a deal?

With my calculations regarding the relation between Price and Points in Southwest Airlines:

$1 =~60 points (it ranges from 54 to 65)

If I buy 5000 points from Southwest Airlines with this deal it is giving 2500 points bonus.
i.e. 7500 points for $137.5

Order Summary
Number of Points to purchase: 5,000
FREE Bonus Points 2,500
Total Points 7,500
Cost of Points: $137.50 USD
Total Cost: $137.50 USD

That is about 54 points for $1.

HOW IS THIS A DEAL???

If you have to question whether it's a deal or not, assume it's not and don't post about it

It is really only a deal for those people who fly Southwest a lot and also have erratic or unstable dates. When I go on vacation I frequently book several return dates using points so I have an option on when I wish to return. The other tickets are simply cancelled out and the points returned to my account. It is much easier than trying to keep track of the credits they would issue you...

When you pay the $5 fee per way, is that reimbursed too?

Typically, buying points is only a good option if you're needing to top off your account to book a trip. Southwest doesn't have a points + cash option, so let's say you're short 1000 points for a flight. It would be cheaper to buy the points than just book the entire flight with cash.

That seems to be a great. Do we need to cancel within specified time or will it be cancelled automatically if we don't fly and the points will be refunded back?

$137.50 for 5000 points = .027 cents per point
$137.50 for 7500 points = .018 cents per point

Right now if you book a flight, the points seem to be valued (points per dollar) differently based on the type of fare that you are choosing (this is just calculating from one flight).

Business Select = .009
Anytime = .011
Wanna Getaway = .017
