Got one of these a couple of years ago and when I finally needed it this year, it was really spurious and finally stopped working after a couple of weeks.

I returned it under their 3 year warranty, but the replacement they sent did the same thing.

Not going to waste another $5 to return it again.

these are really cheap crappy switches. i'd prefer to spend a couple bucks more for something metal. d-link has one for $18 to $21 which gives you 8 ports instead of 5 and is a metal case rather than cheap plastic. don't recommend these.

Is there a limit on how many of these things you can add to your home? Will it slow down if I have 3? Already have an 8 port poe and I think this model or the one above it.

No u can add all u want

But If u prefer to hard wire everything like me Keep in mind its Basically a 4 port switch after uplink, and it can never have more than a 1gb uplink.

ull hate urself later for not getting the 8 port for $17-$20 on sale
Or a 16 port for $50ish

I have a drawer full of useless 5 port switches now lol

And this may not be the thread for it but may want to look into managed switches so you can use bonding/port channel/ether channel and have multiple uplinks (2-4gb vs 1gb) between switches

Especially if you have fios gigabit and/or a multi user media/game streaming household.

Im already on to 10gb capable uplink switches at my core layer next is at each room. Then i can stop wasting 2-4 ports per room switch just for uplinks...and like 12-16 ports wasted on my core switch instead of 4-8

Every wired host in my house gets near the 1gb on internet speed tests.

Why are the 8 port and 16 port switches better? Can it handle Cat6 and these can only handle Cat5e? I have fios gigabit but went with Orbi ac3000 mesh, as my home was not set up nicely for ethernet. Orbi works well, most devices are 250-500mbps throughout my house.

As far as this switch: it is working decently, but has a ping of 25-85ms. Not horrible for ping, but I get 4-12ms over the Orbi's on wifi lol. It can also acheive 800mbps+ Upload, but I haven't seen it reach over 500mbps download.
