I use CDP 1884173 with some success. It's a code my company gave out, and they said anyone can use it. No ID is required. Sometimes the rates are better than AAA, sometimes not.

I had a good deal by just going to the AAA office. They used the best code they could find, and set up the airport pickup.

Need one that is valid in Central America. All these codes give me

"The Promotion Coupon youve selected - {0} is not available for this rental either because that location isnt participating or some requirement for the offer hasnt been met. We have removed the Promotion Coupon from your request to provide you with the best rate. There may be other offers in the Special offer section which do apply, so you could check there for an alternative. [DRX141]"

They have old school physical maps and travel books for trips. I haven't looked into other benefits.

For people that may not know, AAA allows a free second driver and you get 10% off refueling (often much lower than the pump). I always calculate my fuel stops to bring back the car complety empty. I can usually get a Fri-Mon rental for $31 at my Hertz. Definitely worth my AAA membership.

You should, it's a AAA perk right on Hertz own website.

So if I use a AAA code, like CDP 4 for AAA Socal, this "free second driver" and "10% off refuel" is automatic?

Yes, as long as you're a member. They ask for your card. I book through AAA's website.

Depends, I always book economy because most places don't have enough vehicles for that class so 75% of the time I get a free "upgrade" on a weekend rental. I've driven everything from a Cadillac XTS to Hyundai with free XM Radio.

Interesting never would have thought of that. They overbook economy and so you get bumped up to the higher level.

I rent cars a fair bit and found that it is worth my time to shop around.

FWIW- Costco Travel has pretty good rates for rental car rates if you are member- https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars

I also have gotten some pretty good deals at https://www.autoslash.com/ .
