Back up SMS & MMS in conversation view

149 22 February 22, 2018 at 12:27 PM
Did a search to see if it's been posted here and didn't see anything, my apology if I've missed it.

I have a huge amount of text messages on my Galaxy S5. They are a blend of SMS & MMS (MMS being both "long" texts that are converted and attachments, either photo or voice).

I there an app that will back them up to the PC?

I've used SMS MMS to Email & SMS and MMS Diary, both unsuccessfully to what I am looking for.

SMS MMS to Email allows the user to send the thread to email - but it only the text message portion - MMS are done separately and each one is individual (meaning if there are 50 photos in the text conversation, then 50 separate emails are sent. I'm looking maintain the integrity or original format of the conversation - let's say there's a conversation about a child, a photo is sent of a bruise, then more conversation, then more photos - in theory, I'd like the whole thing to be kept viewable just as it is on the phone.

SMS and MMS Diary indicates all of the texts will be pulled and put into a diary format, but that program keeps ending in error - no reply from developer.

Anyone know of an app or a way to export these to the computer (PC) so that they can be viewed there?

Have you tried SMS Backup+ ?

Also, this is why important stuff should be sent via email and not text, but I digress.

If you use google hangouts for messaging, you can use google takeout for the json file. that's kind of the gold standard, it has lots of metadata.

in all honesty, if this is going to end up in criminal or civil court, you are better off consulting a lawyer. you need to maintain the integrity and chain of custody.

if they are dumb enough to text it to me, I'm not going to say "uh, can you email me where there will be an easy paper-trail" Smilie I've started the process with SMS Backup + Hopefully it makes it thru the process (the last 2 programs I used crashed just about at the end - I like this one as I can see what's transferred to gmail during the process.

Haven't seen any threads that are both SMS & MMS over in Gmail yet - any idea if it will keep the thread intact or send SMS separate from MMS? Other programs I've looked at did them separately.

Appreciate the advice - I do realize that.... and have an attorney so I'm just kinda' doing the "extra layer" of CYA - before permanently deleting or losing the texts.

Do not know how it handles the images vs. the texts in gmail. I am not a text person and give people a hard time if they do not email me stuff with attachments or embedded images. People who take pictures with their phone and text them irritate me the most in this regard as it is just as easy to send the image via email as it is to text it (easier in fact imo), but some people are so contemptuous of email they insist on sending everything by idiotic text message.
