I have a 10 year old Onkyo TXSR-605 that still works fine. I do not have a 4k tv yet. Would these make much of a difference for a 5.1 system?

Probably not unless you need some of the new features or are upgrading to 4k soon.

No. That's still a good receiver and I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded better than the newer ones. Only upgrade if you have to (If you want Atmos or 4K switching). If you need networking abilities just add a Chromecast audio.

My 5 year old onkyo is going out and I'd like to upgrade to a 4k receiver as well. Does anyone know if I can listen to an audio only source while having a different video source at the same time with any of these?

If my receiver has chroma 4:2:4 rather then the new standard of 4:4:4 is there a difference in image quality for shows and movies? Debating whether it's worth upgrading for my 4K TV.

If you're looking for a receiver in that price range go for the Onkyo tx-rz810 [amazon.com] $599.00 they only made some slight changes when they went to the Onkyo tx-rz820.

I don't have these specific Onkyos, but most likely, yes, they're supported. I have an Onkyo TX-NR708 and TX-NR646, and can access them both via this Python module [github.com]. Although I mostly use my Harmony/Alexa to control them these days.

All TV and Movies are mastered in chroma 4:2:0 so you would not difference in it. Chroma 4:4:4 is only really important when using a PC with a TV and wanting to read text easily. https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/c...ubsampling

First check with the onkyo warranty website, there will be a place to put your serial number in, they extended the free repair warranty on some modes. My 6 year old 818 had and issue with the picture dropping out. I was offered either free repair or get a discount on an upgraded model. The discounted replacements they offered were the rz-1100 or the newly released rz920, both for $700. I opted for the rz920 since I felt it was a little more future proof, albeit less powerful. I only went for the up grade so I could pass through 4k 60hz and hdr. I will check on your audio question when I get home.
