Lmfao @ save $40. This is old school bad, like when they didn't know what they were doing around the time Google Cardboard released. I wouldn't spend $10 on this.

Its not what you think. Its not meant to be a VR viewer. Its meant to display your entire screen as a solid unbroken image.

It will not display 3D, stereoscopic content nor is it meant to. Think of it as genuinely simulating a 2k screen (4k if you have a Sony Xperia) as if it was 60 inches 4 feet from you rather than 720p stereoscopic circular images like your head was in an underwater helmet that current mobile VR is displayed.

I agree that some Chinese knockoff cpuld do the same for 10 bucks, but thats moot since they only go for VR.

This video [youtube.com] is SUPER cheesy, but it does explain further.

I went by what I see, read, and experienced back in the day. It's exactly what it looks like. Something that shouldn't be more than $10. Those same Chinese headsets that have too far of a distance away from the screen, bulky, and heavy.

I'll give them their props for not trying to push it as VR, though. That's what those others should have done.

They unfortunately (for us) have the patent for that prismatic lens type so we won't see cheaper third party options legally sold for a while....

If you fly/travel often and actually like to watch your own content (downloaded Movies/TV/YouTube Red/Netflix) these are worth the cost. Seriously. Just keep in mind they aren't VR so you won't feel like you are in your own world. Which for me is a positive as you won't miss flight attendants handing out free half cups of soda....ha

I'd have to try it to see why it's so fancy (for $20, lol). For mobile, I still recommend the BoboVR Z4. But, the Z4 would be like a personal theater and not a TV like the 1 in the OP..

A very low resolution personal theater.

Edit: I have owned every iteration of the Samsung Gear VR. I know how awesome a personal vr theater is and have watched many movies that way.... this is still better for 2d viewing.

If you have a cheap phone, yes.

It'd still be better than this overpriced, badly-designed, disproportionate junk.

Lol @ literally any phone that works with Gear VR is not a cheap phone and VR theater viewing with them is better in 2d.

Wasn't even thinking of the Gear VR. Of course those phones are $699 and up. Was speaking of that thing in the link.
