Here are my 2 cents for anyone that's interested.

- radar detectors are legal anywhere in the us except for Virginia and Washington DC

- if you are looking to spend about $400 get the uniden r3

- $200-$250 get the uniden dfr7

- $150-$200 get the uniden dfr6

- around $100 get the beltronics rx65 and turn everything off except for KA band

Yes some people will tell you to get the best or nothing but that's her stupid decent protection is better than no protection and even the cheapest detector on this list would give you decent KA protection which is what i have seen mostly in the highways of central Florida, Houston, and Las Vegas.

Yeah, I tried waze many times and it's useless in my city of 100k

Been using Waze for a few years now, its amazing, but its only helpful if other people in your area are using it as well and updating when they spot police hiding. I find that whenever I am out of town, I am the only one who sends out alerts for police. If you do a lot of driving out of the city, you need a radar!

I don't believe it is legal in CA. On a side note, S75 is repackaged 9500xi.

radar detectors are legal in CA but not radar jammers..... s75 reviews are like 3.5 stars, they say max2 is better but it's like $400. uniden r3 has really high reviews but it's close to $400 too

If they are both the same then this is a sick deal the 9500IX is going for $300+ on Amazon right now [amazon.com] with 4.3 stars from 1,900 reviews!

Buying cheap and ended up get a ticket, eventually paid the same amount anyways, that's what happened to me. You could make your own choice accordingly.

You can get along with a R1 if you don't need the GPS, I personally don't think it's that useful unless you keep passing by a false alarm point. I don't run red lights, period, so the database means minimal to me.

If your looking for this for the highways it may not be too useful. While police have radars and some mounted in their vehicles to obtain speeds while moving a lot of freeway enforcement is done with LiDAR units which shoot s laser beam. They are very accurate and can easily get speeds close to a half mile away. A good LiDAR detector would have remote sensors since the cops aim for license plates and headlights.

Waze pretty much wiped out the radar market, I hardly see anyone with these things anymore.
Useless in smaller cities

Well, but with laser, due to its narrow beam, the moment you receive the alert, they already got your speed.
