Walmart has the Stack-On 10-gun security cabinet on sale again. It's usually $100, so only a 10% discount. However, I've not seen it for less than $90.

This is not a "safe." It won't thwart a determined thief with a crowbar, but it will slow them down. It will also keep kids out. Fits easily in a closet without taking up much room. Bolt it to the wall (easily done), and put a silica gel dehumidifier inside. Add a second hasp and padlock if you like.

i have this safe, it's extremely flimsy. Just about the thinnest metal they could have possibly used

If you pick up open the box before you leave the store. Dented cabinets and missing keys are common

Definitely inspect before leaving the store. It also makes it easier to get rid of the box; just leave it behind. Smilie

I have this cabinet also. It's about the same thickness as a typical truck tool box, but steel rather than aluminum. As I said, it's not a safe, but it will keep the kids from giving in to curiosity. Bolting it to the wall will greatly increase the difficulty of getting it out of the house.

Agreed. I was at Menards the other day looking for a larger floor safe, and saw these. It's basically unhardened sheet metal with a super basic lock on it. I'd imagine a 10 year old could possibly pry it open with a quality dinner utensil.

If one is only looking to keep wandering hands away then I suppose it would work, but it offers next to zero ACTUAL security. I recommend passing on this and saving/investing the $90+ that would be spent on a quality piece of hardware.

The ammunition is just as important, if not more so. A gun without ammo is useless, but ammo without a gun still presents a risk as it contains explosives.

If it's just you, and you ain't worried about kids or potential thieves, I suppose it would work just fine, but in that case you could buy something even less expensive with more storage space and just put a lock on it, like a wooden cabinet or something.

I also have this safe. It's the best I could find at this price point. It is basically a steel lock box, but you're looking at a significant price jump for something more substantial with this sort of space.
