This is a similar to what we paid with the free Roku streaming stick with a month of Sling TV (deal from December 2016), but with that deal we got a new stick (same one, AFAICT) and a month of Sling TV.

If you're considering this, be aware that it's a 2016 model Roku and will only do up to 1080p. But it's a good product nonetheless.

This model stick always has issues with the remotes....wind up using the Roku app for remote.

I have 2 of these...they work...but like I said the remotes are junk....I'm waiting on a deal for the new ones....need the functionality of turning tv on/off and volume up/down

I have two of them currently in service and haven't experienced any issues as you've described.

Both my sticks constantly have issues with the remotes. I have Roku TV's and the remotes work fine

The newer model (3800) uses dual band AC standard wireless streaming compared to wireless N on this model. The 3800 also has an actual infrared remote for controlling TV power and volume and a quicker response time in app. Not to mention (on paper anyway) a much faster processor.

What sort of issue do you have? The only real issue I have with the remote for my Roku Stick is that if I haven't used it in awhile (days), it will not respond. I usually just pop a battery out and put it back in and then it works fine. It is definitely annoying but I just figure the remote went to sleep due to non-usage for a long time.

Constant doesn't respond..have to pop the batteries out...re-sync....it's a pain..I wind up using my phone as the remote

Like I said all my Roku tv remotes work fine...it's this older model stick that has the issues...I have 2 of them and both have same issue

I have had 2 Roku sticks with no problems but recently bought a refurb one from the SD a month ago ($29.99) and it had the same remote problems you describe. I just returned it for an exchange but now I'm thinking it's probably a systemic problem with all the ones which get returned and end up as refurbs.

is the stick a real upgrade from the Roku 3? I have the Premier and the Roku 3, but I cannot see much of a difference between them

I bought both of mine new....when Sling or DirecTV Now was offering them with a month of service

I've never had remote problems either. Maybe you got bad ones, did you ever drop it? Bad battery?

for most features, the stick is actually a downgrade [roku.com] from the Roku 3.

The Premier will do 4k; the others will not
