I have version 1, 2, and 3. I have disassembled them and, they all use the same drivers. They sound almost identical.

Don't fall for that msrp, brand new amazon sells this for $129. Just do your homework. I was surprised how big this thing is in person.

I have the series 2 and LOVE it! A few minor complaints - I wished there was a "fuel gauge" to show how much charge was left, a "charge complete" light would be nice too. Yes, it's a little large - that said, it requires a little more volume to drive the speaker (compared to those $20 cheap / crap ones). It is a great looking conversation piece that has great output with plenty of bass. For $85, great deal (They may have sold the Onyx 2 refurb for $75?? It was on SD a few months ago.)

Surprisingly, they are selling the Onyx 4 for only $139. I see a cool addition - a hardshell case for $20. It looks nice enough to protect the item. (I'm not familiar with the case, just based off the ad.)

I have NO regrets on my purchase (Series 2 for $150 new several BF's ago).

HTH

PS - It is portable enough to bring to a friends place, picnic / park, etc. I wouldn't bring it to the beach - only b/c I wouldn't want decent electronics near sand or salt water.

Who honestly would consider this "portable"?

Great sound and all but it's really only good for around the house.

How's this compare to the Onyx mini that was on sale for a refurb @ $40ish? Their MSRP seems pretty close if memory serves.

Can't bare to go through the reviews again and Harmon Kardon is killing me with how many portable Bluetooth speakers they seem to think the already flooded market needs.

Wish they'd take all this energy for all these designs and put it into just a basic, working version of the Hardon Kardon wifi/Bluetooth speaker adapter app... spent 2 hours off and on and never got it to stream music on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi... just glad I was only out $15 and not the $90 MSRP

I have the 3 and 4. And imo, the 3 hits harder than the 4.

I have the onyx 3 and love it, great in or out of the house. I bring mine to the beach every week, it is very durable too. Good deal for most, you can also pair 2 of them together. I'm considering getting the 4 from Sprint at $159 (they give me 13 months 0%apr). The 4 has increased battery life and about 20 more watts I believe, you can also pair up to 100 of the new ones (cannot imagine how that would sound)
