The cheapest a refurb has gone for that I know of is $175, but note that this doesn't include a controller.

However, if you have a controller from the Parrot Swing deal for $35 a little while back for example, you can use that with the Bebop 2 for better control, and it can either connect directly to the Bebop 2 on the phone for shorter range, or to extend the range purchase a USB extender:

Yes, there are basically 5 different ways to control this drone and you can buy bigger controllers later:
  • Phone
  • Tablet
  • Parrot mini controller (aka. "Flypad")
  • SkyController 1
  • SkyController 2

There is also method to use a wired Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 controller with a utg cable to connect to the phone/tablet. Paired with a Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi range extender you can get just as far (1.5km) I've done this and it works well. Lots of YouTube videos on it.

Humm, a bunch of people got the bebop 2 plus sky controller 1 in November for like $240 from B&H. I think it was refurbed.
So, as long as you were interested in the controller itself, that puts the quad at around $140 at the time.

This deal really isn't that hot.

I wanted a 2, but decided to temporarily jump on the refurb bebop 1 for $80. Will be a good step up from the symas I fly.

It was brand new, not refurb, I bought one. Was a great deal. But there hasn't been another deal anywhere close to that before or since.

Ha, you got one? Yeah awesome deal, a lot better than this one. I can see more and better deals coming down the pike on refurb 2's, especially with the new version (which really isn't any better overall I guess). Until then I'll fly this 1, if it flys.

Be careful on the Bebop 1. I had one and the battery strap failed on me causing the battery to slip out and making the quad dive into concrete from about 50'.

Coming from Syma, I too am excited to try the Bebop 1 (not this deal). Bought the Drone + FlyPad for $80+$24=$104.

Craiglisted the syma for $40, so nett spending of $64.

Hope this will be better than syma, which was a mess without altitude control & location stabilizer/GPS. It can barely hold steady outdoors & frustrated me that it stays in the closet most of the time.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at it and once I can determine that the quad works ok I'll plan on reinforcing it. Did the strap break? Or did the Velcro come undone?

I have a little custom syma x5c-1 quad I put together that Does Have altitude hold and some other things like jello free camera. I flew it up 35 feet last week to examine the gutters on my second story in some mild wind. It Actually worked pretty well. If you can fly an x5c in 10 mph winds, with 15 mph gusts, I figure you can fly about anything- Cause it ain't easy.

Also got in on the $240 B&H sale. Have yet to use the skycontroller 1. Too big prefer to just use the phone until I'm comfortable flying out of sight.

yeah, was about to buy that fly controller 1, so cool, but not that great for the type of informal run'gun trips I normally make with one of my Symas. Will be flypading for now, perhaps flypading with extension later.

The skycontroller 1 is solid performer... gives you way more control over your flight and you can still your phone/tablet as your FPV to keep an eye on longer range operations. Plus the dedicated stick to control camera angle is nice.
