This is more of a PSA as well as a great deal, to get peoples alerts firing. Battletech / Mechwarrior fans rejoice! Battletech turn based combat is making a PC comeback with Battletech by Paradox Interactive which makes some of my favorite games of all time. This is going to be amazing and hold me over till the new Mechwarriror game comes out, which I don't think even has a release date yet. I Honestly did not know this game was even in the works till I just saw it today, and I think other people might be in the same boat!

Being a Mercenary company owner and controlling all aspects including your dropship and crews while you help win a civil ware for the highest bidder, I mean come on! I cant throw my money at the screen fast enough and it comes out NEXT MONTH!!!!

Steam has a good refund policy. "Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours. Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we've described, you can submit a request and we'll take a look at it."

So when preordering it's always a tricky thing. Maybe the game isn't polished and crashes all the time. Maybe it's only really half done or the screenshots and videos (what you based your preorder on) didn't meet the same.

Specific to this game (and the battletech universe) what if you're limited to how much you can customize your mechs? Or the missions are the same thing over and over? What if it's all based on rnd chance to win? What if they didn't balance the game right and you run out of credits before you can grow your company? There's a lot of iffy things that if not done right can ruin the game (or make you wait months until a patch comes out that fixes/balances the issues).

With the way games come out now a days, without good and numerous reviews you're taking a big chance.

I am a fan of the series in general and got the digital deluxe to support the IP more than anything else. I want them to see huge support and release expansion packs and stuff, if games like this dont sell much less incentive to keep making them in the future. This is one franchise I want to see around for a long time, its been too long since we had a good mechwarrior battletech game in my opinion. Also probably going to buy a few more for my brother and friend.

Mechwarrior online has come a far way and is actually fun so I wont discredit that, since its a good FPS game.

Really wish this was a real-time tactics game like Mechcommander. Most of it sounds perfect (aside from the merc stuff) but the turn-based element is making this a pass for me until it gets heavily discounted.

I'll prob buy it anyway sometime to support the IP.

Just want to throw this out there.
While it may be cheaper to get a key from another site, you don't have the ability to refund it if the game turns out to be terrible.
I ran into this problem not too long ago. There is some protection from buying crappy games by going directly to steam and buying it.

In certain circumstances, if its vaporware or not functional on your machine. If you just dont like it, unless you lie to them I dont think you will get a refund.

That is very true. Luckily I trust paradox a lot, they have made primarily all high caliber games. Stellaris the last game out by them that I playied has been great better than any other 4x space game currently out. Also played all the Europa/WW2/ and kings game. All have been very good.I can understand the game not having everything I want, no game really ever does, but the funds let them develop and polish the game more in the future. Even if its not what I like at launch it has the chance to get better over time. There have been quite a few games that have sucked at launch that got better over time lately.

As I mentioned earlier im just a big fan of the IP so I want to support it cause its not everyday we get a game like this. Mechwarrior Mercenaries was one of my favorite mechwarrior games of all time, so the whole running your own merc company is strong with me. Even if mech customization is limited which I suspect it to be since battletech was more about preconfigured best to my recollection and not customization mechs.

I'm a Kickstarter backer for this, and a long time Battletech fan. This game is supposed to be a very close approximation of the tabletop game. I got to play in the Backer Beta and can confirm it's very close (not exact, as some mechanics just have to be adapted for a PC game).

It's super fun. I've been waiting for another amazing Battletech game since MechCommander was released, and I think this is it. Plus, Harebrained is a proven developer and has shown they actually care about these niche projects (like Shadowrun).

If you're a Battletech fan, or you enjoy turn based strategy games I think you will love this.

Hey, can you tell me a bit more?
Is this post clan invasion? Pre? How many mechs does it have from the game? Can you ally with certain factions? Is there an end game? Can you customize your mechs within the slot limitations?

Thanks!

Pre clan invasion, so Inner Sphere only right now. I can't speak to being able to ally because I only played the Backer Beta which did not include the campaign at all. The beta had stock 'Mechs only, but different variants to choose from. I believe in the final version you can change the loadout of Mechs in your stable, but you can't actually make one from scratch.

Not sure what you mean by endgame, but there is an included single player campaign + multiplayer skirmishes. I'm not sure how extensive the final multiplayer gameplay will be, but in the beta it was 1 vs 1 with each player controlling a lance of up to 4 'Mechs each in a last man standing match.
