Seems like a great deal if you live by a microcenter. Any recommendations on motherboards? Was looking at:
ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X HERO WI-FI AC LGA 1151 ATX Intel Motherboard?

Picked up open box one at MC Philadelphia today for $254 after tax. MC offer 20% off customer returned open box. They still have 7th gen 7700k open box for $223.96 before tax.

With one was it that has an insane amount of cores? I do video editing and would love the big dog under my hood.

You're probably referring to the Core i9 series. The i7 cap at 6 cores.

For Microcenter not to have one single story anywhere in the Bay Area is such a travesty.

The i9 is too expensive...if he simply wants more core, a ryzen 1700/1800 series would be better

I agree 100%. I have a Ryzen 1700 running at 3.8 GHz with no issues. Just didn't wanna be accused of being a thread crapper for bringing up Ryzen in an Intel thread lol

The only one left in CA unfortunately is in Orange County/Tustin.

Funny because I stayed in the Residence Inn hotel literally right across from it and didn't know til I drove there. Its computer heaven in there.

It's a good deal, but taxes make it not so good. I tried the i7 with the Gigabyte Gaming 7 Motherboard and came out to $562.88 with taxes... Newegg, with shipping and no taxes at regular price, came out to $526

I would be careful with open boxes from MC. They don't check much if anything. I bought 2 open box boards and both had issues. one of them actually died within a couple months. And just some of the open boxes ive seen on shelves are very questionable. I almost bought a cheap mechanical drive open box and it looked all scratched up and just looked abused. Anyway I'm all for open boxes but newegg is my go to place for that. Just make sure you check it really well, visually and also temps, performance etc hopefully it was just a return due to poor OC or something dumb like that.
