There seems to be a little confusion on the specs, the linked retail site lists in the title as 7200 RPM, but the hyperlink says 5900.

The drive pictured is model ST2000DM006, it's a 7200 RPM drive. Here is the spec sheet [seagate.com]. With our current BarraCuda lineup, capacities 3TB and under in 3.5" form factor are 7200 RPM, while 4TB and up are 5900. For our BarraCuda Pro, all capacities of 3.5" are 7200 RPM.

The ST2000DM006 in the store is 54.99 . If you use the 5 off 30 coupon, then it is 49.99 plus tax.
as to why this size of drive is popular, many systems max out at 2 tb hdd support .
