Will probably last 1-2 years before they pull the plug and you lose your invested money and your data. These companies keep doing that

I don't think so! It's cloud storage service and they will just make the service grandfathered after a year or two. Stacksocial won't put any Ponzi scheme out there. I am using IDrive service of lifetime subscription of unlimited mobile storage which is working so for 2 yrs. only drawback is mobile uploads are only unlimited. I paid only 20$-30$ for it. I don't remember. But even if this service last for 10 yrs. I will be still okay with it.

I think the fear is the company won't be around for that long, not that you wouldn't be grandfathered in if they changed their service offering.

TU. I like these offers. I didn't want a monthly subscription fee so I bought the 500gb Zoolz lifetime plan a few years ago for about $40. I believe it's been close to 4 years now. I've got about 100gb of family photos and vids up there. I also got everything backed up on two separate hard drives as well so I'm not too worried if Zoolz goes out of business, if they do I would just get degoo or some other lifetime service if available and back it all up from one of my other drives. Yes somewhat of a pain but I think I've gotten my $40 worth.
