Nebula Capsule by Anker is currently $251.60 + tax during Amazon's Lightning deal. I'm not sure what the protocol is for posting Amazon Lightning Deals, so please delete if they are not allowed.

MSRP is $350. Last lowest price according to SlickDeals was $279. My total with tax is $271.10.

Moto Z Play: $170
Lenovo InstaShare: $150

$320 total, but its even more portable, has more capabilities and has the exact same projector specs.

Moto Z Droid is $190 so for $340 you get a projector system capable of decent mobile gaming as well.

You can actually find refurb units on ebay and new units on Craigslist for days for $100 so $270 total is super easy to get.

This does have a nice built-in speaker, but the thinness of the Moto setup is worth it.

Edit: Also in case its not clear - this has android built-in, but you still need a separate phone to be able to control it - kinda lame and why just using a dedicated phone with the instashare projector is a better solution.

Very good points! Thank you for doing the math because I would have eventually gotten there eventually. What are your thoughts on the Lenovo Yoga Tab Pro and ZTE SPRO 2? I really liked the ZTE SPRO Plus but I can't find that anywhere. I like the SPRO 2 since it has LTE capabilities.

i don't think that's true. it runs a semi-custom android TV...limited apps, but you just need wifi and can control with the remote.

I don't have an opinion on those unfortunately.

I actually bought a Moto Z Play for $200 new off a guy on Craigslist when thebuy 1 get 1 InstaShare Projector free promo was going on. So $244 total after tax and its been awesome on two vacations already. Thats when my research ended for a pico style projector.

In real world use, in a dark hotel room you can extend the screen to 140 inches perfectly fine.

Read THIS [amazon.com]review.

Most internal apps are useless and as of a week ago its casting support isn't full functional. Note though that this dude is using an iphone and you probab;y would have a better experience using an android based phone to cast content, but there lies the problem I initially stated anyways - You need to use another phone.

You should ask why they have a separate app if you can just use the remote to use and why would you want to deal with all of that when you can just buy an InstaShare and Moto Z.

All that said, there is one feature though that it has that could be more useful and thats the HDMI input.

ok, his complaint is not all apps work...because of the limited/custom os. there are a handful that will work without using a phone though (netflix, youtube).

i own a nebula mars lite (no built in os) so my only option is casting. that said, a chomecast works great with it.

If your specific use is Netflix/Youtube then fine, thats all you need - but if you want 'any' other reason to use it, like emulated games on the SNES9x app or any mobile games for that matter then you'll need to use another device which defeats the purpose. Plus, again, the device is small, but at the size of a 12oz. can its still 5 times the size of the Moto/InstaShare combo.

Definitely doesn't have the same specs. 50 lumens vs 100 lumens. That instashare only has a 400:1 contrast ratio, ewww.

Either way, both options (Nebula, and yours) leave a lot to be desired.

Texas Instruments, the company that makes this .2in wide VGA DLP, lists 150 ANSI lumens on its data sheet which leads me to believe Lenovo opted to lower the max brightness to save battery. Fair enough that the nebula is brighter, but dont kid yourself on the contrast ratio. Its the same OEM display...unless you can show me where Anker shows the contrast ratio.

I have ZTE SPRO 2 (Verizon model) and it is really good. When plunged in I get decent picture on my wall even in day light.
Stuck on old version of Android though.

It will use the phone battery after its own has been depleted. People online who say the mod won't use the phone battery and dies after its own is depleted are idiots.

In fact, in a hotel where I can use blackout curtains and don't need max brightness. I can dim it less than halfway and get almost 3 hours out of it on a movie with not much bright scenes. YMMV, but I've never gotten less than 2 hours.
