Just so everyone knows, this is used so that the motherboard triggers an additional power supply to turn on, for example if you needed more power for video cards you could add a 2nd psu and both would turn on at the same time.

Is this used for mining? I thought ppl just added another psu without the motherboard connector. Thanks for the info!

the psu needs to know when to turn on. you can jump it manually, but then you need to turn the psu on manually before you turn on the computer, this way everything is automatic.

Guys, what is the spec rating on these cables? Gauges, AMP/Volt pass-through? or just take a risk?

different PSUs made by different manufacturers are not all wired the same which is why you cant interchange modular cables between power supplies (or u can but you may not like the results). so is this a "universal" y splitter ? or is this specific for a manufacturer which to me it would make much more sense?
this is no doubt a useful adapter to have but i feel like i trust more my 2 dollar trigger plug for my second PSU.

It simply connects to the 2nd supply's 24 pin to tell it to turn on a a off

got it. looking better at the pictures, this is an extension cable vs. a replacement cable for your current 24 pin . For some reason i thought its replacing the 24 pin but its actually only "extending it". extensions are universal for all psus whereas replacements are specific to a psu brand/model. Okay i think i got my answer. Thanks !

i dont think it matters because the main cable i s just the 24 pin that uses standard specs. it only powers the cpu, the board stuff like that not the video cards or anything that requires a certain high minimum wattage or amps. Granted, you are not getting corsair quality cable with built in capacitors for low ripple but i think the 24 pin is standard on todays motherboards so i wouldnt worry about frying things . The second 2 wire connector thats just to switch the psu on and off so doesn't matter. Its also not replacing your main 24 pin but only extending it....no different than buying any other extension cable.

Just so people know you can short the green and black wires on a psu to use two. Also even if it stays on the whole time if it's not powering the motherboard and cpu it does not matter.

Options to do this:

1. Use paper clip: free
2. Use this cable: $5
3. Use Add2psu; $9+

Used 1,3 before, gonna try this and see
