Another route ends up costing $405. Method is buy Microsoft cards on another Slickdeal. 5 $100 @ $81 each. Then buy direct from Microsoft.

Must be dead, shows up as $450 in Houston Microcenter, then $37 in tax, so $487 total.

Try logging out and putting it in your cart. I just did it (without being logged in) and the price came up to $429.99 before taxes and shipping.

Thanks, works now. Pretty sure I did that though. *shrugs* Perhaps I had to be logged in.

I picked up that "used very good" condition Vive deal from Amazon warehouse though, arriving today in fact, but if that turns out to be crap condition, good to have the Odyssey as a fallback.

I'm seriously struggling on which one to buy, honestly. Rift's price point and controllers are it's pros. I like the Vive for its display and as I'll be gaming quite a bit. I like the Sammy for its better display, but the price for both of those is prohibiting, plus I'm concerned about the Sammy tracking, but external tracking is con for both the Rift and Vive for me, personally.

The struggle is real, my dude.

The one for $439? If you happen to think about it, hit me up on here and let me know what you think. I've got around $100 in Amazon GC, so I'd like to buy whatever I get through Amazon..if that setup isn't that bad, I might go for it.

I've been using a Gear VR for ages, so that's all I have to compare it to. Playing with the HTC Vive a bit so far, its a load of fun, but man the fresnel lenses look HORRIBLE to me. Yikes!

Very obvious rings which my Gear VR does not have.

I have 30 days to return, so am thinking of checking out the Odyssey. Microcenter has a good return policy too I think.

The first thing you need to check is if your pc is capable of doing vr. You need a higher end graphics card. Then from there you can download the steam vr test tool or the oculus test tool and see if everything will work okay. Some newer games like fallout 4 vr require a really high end graphics card.

Some people get motion sickness in vr. The easiest test is to go buy a cheap $5-15 google cardboard and try some apps/games on it. This is low end for vr and if this doesn't give you motion sickness then you may be good.

You can also try out many different vr headsets at microsoft stores, best buy's, gamestops. Some towns have vr arcades where you can try out different stuff for a certain amount. It's nice to see the differences of them in person. Trying them is really fun. Look up different games/apps you want to try for each one and also limitations in each one to see if the limitations bother you. Since each hmd has a weakness.

Each the rift, vive and wmr (windows mixed reality) have there pros and cons. Vive has the best tracking, wmr is similar to rift except it has cameras in the hmd that track your movement but sometimes not as accurate as the rift. The rift is good with 2 sensors but getting a 3rd makes things a lot better.

The vive and rift have the same resolution. The wmr headsets have higher resolutions. The samsung has the highest wmr resolution, the same as the new vive pro.

This is why people are now taking old gearvr lenses and putting them on the Vive with 3d printed adapters.. Wink

Can anyone confirm if this deal also includes the controllers or the necessary cables? Trying to figure out if this is a good deal compared to the bundle that amazon offers.

I ordered this myself shortly after asking, since there is a 30 day return policy. For those curious, it does include the cable, controllers, and batteries. I am very satisfied with the Odyssey, and this is a great deal! The package arrived in 4 business days.
