Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by

  • This is a nice drop in price from a previous Frontpage deal from last November, when it was $197.
  • It features an angled pole design to allow more play under the basket. The hoop is adjustable from 7.5' to 10' and it has a 34-gallon base and steel pole construction. 795 reviews on Walmart.com give it a 4.2 out of 5 star overall rating. -Corwin

I bought this last week for $197 and it's scheduled to be delivered Thursday. I noticed the price drop. I was able to chat online with a Walmart rep who gave me a refund for the difference. Shipping or store pick-up is free but I noticed for me at least, store pick-up was a dollar more due to sale tax differences between cities.

Great 54" sized backboard and even better reviews for this portable basketball hoop.

I bought this exact one a year and a half ago from Walmart. Great hoop for the price. Follow the instructions down to the t and dot the i! Especially when connecting the three poles!!! Cant emphasize this enough. I put it together alone in about 4-5 hours with some breaks. If doing it alone you need something like a step ladder to set and lean some large parts to be installed. I still have nightmares about it but it's worth the time and effort. Btw i bought it for about $200 then.

Not sure why there's not more love for this deal. This same hoop being sold for $197 through Wal-Mart on Nov 15 last year became a front page deal. Another place (Academy Sports) sold this same hoop for $167 on Black Friday last year.

If there's a better deal for this hoop than this one, please post it.

Paid about 10 more before Christmas. We just moved so I waited to assemble it until a couple weeks ago. So far, Good goal for the money. I laid out and identified all fasteners first and read through the instruction manual. Took me a few hours to assemble with maybe 30 minutes of prep which really sped things up. I could imagine how long it would take otherwise since none of the hardware is identified.

For those that have put this together...Is it possible to garage mount it?

Looks pretty good, and a good weekend task. Do you used sand or water in the base? More interested in it not tipping vs portability. TIA

I don't know how you would do that with this system. You would be better off just getting the back board and rim without the pole and base.

I bought this last summer for about 200 and its been pretty good so far. The setup is not easy, it is time consuming, and the pieces, especially the small ones, are not labelled well. Just plan everything out and try to have 2 people if you can.

I also have water in the base and so far it has tipped over once in strong wind. It was in the lowest setting when that happened too. From now on I tip it over myself if we know there is a bad storm coming out if we are going away for a while.

I have a smaller Lifetime portable hoop filled with water in the base. Whenever I leave it out with just water in the base, it's a bit wobbly and can tip over in a strong wind. The trick for this is to buy a few 50lb bags of small crushed rocks from Lowes or Home Depot and place them on top of the base after it's been filled with water or sand. It may be a bit unsightly, but it adds an extra 100lbs which greatly helps to anchor the hoop down and prevent tipping over in high winds.
