I would hardly call it a fad, it's not like a yoyo. It's more of an early attempt to show what can be done given more time to refine it. This is the lowest price (minus the NFM at $250 when I got mine) and comes with some free games.

If you buy this, go in knowing:
1) it's expensive, the unit alone costs what a console does. Games too.
2) companies making games are plenty, but all of the little known are tech demos. Each is maybe 30-60minutes long. And some are $30-40, but do go on sale from time to time.
3) few big name companies have invested in quality games for it, and rightfully so. See #1 above, why target such a small audience?
4) some games are frankly better without VR than with... However, you can't pull an arrow from your quiver without PS move controllers and Skyrim in VR. Statik is easier to solve the cube in front of you when you can see every side of it. Think if you would rather turn your head to look at something then quickly back... Moving your actual head is sometimes easier than aiming via controller.
5) some games are impossible or worse without VR: Superhot, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Job Simulator, Batman VR, RE7 is insanely better.
6) you're going to get dizzy. A lot. And motion sickness from games like Rigs, Eagle Flight, Starblood Arena. Windlands (think being Spiderman in cloud islands) had the only feature I found to cure it... you can place your body inside of a metal spherical cage... so "you" aren't moving, the cage is. This tricked my brain and I could play for a long time before getting sick.
7) I think Sony said every other month on Plus it would do a VR game? If anything, download the free ones and use if you decide to buy in.
8) it's still early. This isn't a must have device, it's better than Kinect by miles, but buying in now is hardly getting your money's worth. I did because I realized I hate the gaming companies that exist and try to milk every dollar from me, I'd rather spend my money on gimmicky games like these than SWBF2, Destiny2, The yearly regurgitation of COD, etc. Basically, if you can spare the money then have at it, but know that it is being supported but at basically the adoption rate.

This is coming from a guy who played with his Dreamcast VMUs when not in the controller. Played Seaman and talked with a fish. Had Yanya Caballista tech deck mini skateboard on his PS2 controller. Preferred Typing of the Dead over House of the Dead. Set up (only once) the Eye of Judgement card game with printed cards so I could cheat (who didn't, honestly?). Flew around the inside of a house as a Mosquito. And played Superhot so long my legs were sore the next day (if you have it, you know why). Is it a bit overpriced and silly? Yeah, but that's what video games are. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

I enjoy mine.

No, it's here to stay. But, VR isn't for everyone.
It's a really cool experience, that will certainly improve as time goes on.

VR is great but there are some caveats for comfort and enduring extended periods of play. I also liked it works well for watching movies. I bought a similar PSVR Skyrim deal direct from NewEgg recently which included Doom VFR instead of the Battlefront II, RE7 Standard combo. So this is a better deal depending on what you want. Don't get too many new VR games from the start as you may lose the stomach for it, being new to VR. Play the demos and Playroom VR games first and grow your VR legs before going all out. I felt a bit exhausted trying everything at once. You'll get used to it. Not all games are great but some will blow you away like Moss.

Very good deal because of resident evil 7, I'd sell star wars though.

Why is Battlefront 2 included? No VR there to my knowledge.

Because it's free? Are you complaining?

presumably the bundle would be cheaper without it

I'm only complaining about your unnecessary and ultimately useless comment. And the fact that you're calling a game free that requires a $350 buy in.

I was mostly interested in hearing if there was a VR element I missed or some planned DLC a la the last Battlefront. I'm now just going to assume it's a throw in because they made too many.

All battlefront II VR plans were scrapped before the games release. I'd say its extremely unlikely that VR content will be released for it at this point.
