Waiting for these fake 4K projectors to hit the $650-700 mark.
These aren't "fake 4k". Eshift is fake 4k, DLP wobbulation is not. They both double native pixel count, but DLP has twice the pixels

How important is this? I bought a beat up BenQ W1070 on ebay, stuck a new lamp in it, and I abuse the hell out of it. The bulbs are like 50usd at most. What will happen if I blow compressed air into it to get the dust out? Bad Idea?
My bulb shattered inside the w1070 and exploded glass shards everywhere. I used compressed air and vacuum everywhere inside and outside the projector and everything works great. By doing the clean up, it also got rid of several artifacts that would come and go on the screen. Major win!

See you in 6 years. Projector prices don't drop even remotely as fast as television prices.
4K projector prices have dropped VERY quickly.

But not nearly as fast as 4K TVs.

I just got the UHD60 to replace W1070 and I have to say as good as the W1070 is the UHD is really awesome even without 4K content.

But to really know I will switch back to the W1070 to see how much of a difference 4K makes. If I don't miss it then I'll go back to the W1070.

I bought the HK2288 from Fry's a while back and like it. My only complaint is it can take a while to sync when switching to 4k content in Netflix, gaming, etc. Other than that my biggest complaint has nothing to do with the projector but the mount I bought for it, I can't get the stupid thing tight enough to not move a bit when you walk by the projector. I upside down mounted it and the mount is on the wall. I might put some brackets under it and see if that helps.

I've been using a BenQ 1070 on a 130" now for about 5 years and still can't bring myself to justify the upgrade cost for 4k when there is so little content available. Then on top of that, these are still not true 4k units; I have yet to see a side by side to see if it's a discernable difference or not though....

was really looking for an epson 5040 but hard to pass this price, i do like 3D or i would have already pulled the trigger. i have an epson 5010 and it has some dust spots so the sealed DLP is appealing. can someone tell me how stupid i am for hanging onto 3D? how does 4k look on these projectors?

Well much depends upon your environment. My home theater is located in my basement which is also where my 120 pound Rottweiler resides. So the sliding door to the outside gets opened a lot and even though the dog has short hair and is washed and doesn't shed much there is going to be added dander. And one can often notice dust in the light coming from the PJ.

This was not just to keeping things out of the PJ which is mounted to the ceiling but also my rack with a Pioneer Elite AVR and a DVR and BluRay and a few other components.
They all have vents to help keep things cool and I would not say it was critical but the air cleaner I got was rated for a room the size of my basement so even aside from my electronic components it gave me cleaner air to breathe.

If you do get dust inside a PJ it is not nearly as easy as preventing it from getting in there in the first place. And of course you want the inside of the lens to be as flawless as possible.
Sounds like you got cheaper bulbs for your PJ. I purchased stock replacements that had the OSRAM bulbs with them and the cost was significant. There were many off brands or even some bulbs but bare so one would have to install them in to the old parts. But I get a huge amount of enjoyment from my system which is what makes it worth it. 8,000 hours is a lot of viewing. And still going.

So the air cleaner is not just for the PJ and now that you know the environment that my gear is in it might make more sense than a room that never had dust or pollen or pets with hair and dander in it.
I can tell you that the air cleaner DOES WORK though and I am very glad I spent something like $250 on sale for it some years ago when I put my system together. One easy way to notice the difference is looking at the light that comes out about a foot from the PJ where it is very bright. Without the air cleaner you will see all the soup of things in the air clearly in that bright light. That is the stuff that I greatly diminish. Dust mites, pollen, stuff that I would rather not have. Mine has metal plates inside that are easy to clean off and put back in. The HEPA filters can sometimes be cleaned and sometimes need replacement. My unit has a remote control that came with it and you can turn on all of the functions or just some and set the fan speed etc.. I am glad I got it. Just as I am very happy with the Logitech Harmony 1100 Universal touch pad remote to run all my equipment. There are newer models but I think that is still the best ever hands down.

Anyway it was a good idea for my situation and whether it is for you or not is something you will have to analyze. One thing is for sure and that is that it certainly can not hurt having cleaner air in a room.

Go to YouTube and search. There are a few comparos between the UHD65 and the vpl-385 Sony which is double the price of the UHD65. While the difference is noticable, it's marginal. Is it worth $2500+ more for a Sony, I don't think so.

Tempting... but I'm still holding out for UHZ65 to come down in price.
