Thank you for the post OP. But there is an Apple event in about 10 days or so and they are going to very likely update their MacBook lineup. It's probably the worst time to buy one right now.

The MacBook Pro isn't the Touch Bar one (plus for some people, minus for others).

The Touch Bar one has 4 USB-C/Thunderbolt ports vs the non-Touch Bar.

The Touch Bar model also has a faster CPU, but that only matters to people with CPU intensive tasks (I do a lot of coding & my build times are ~2 minutes, so this matters, if you code, but compilation doesn't take long, you'll be fine with either).

Does bestbuy price match against microcenter?

it's always YMMV in store, but more likely if there's one within a reasonable distance.

I live in North Cal, there is one MC in South Cal, roughly 350 miles away.

Likely they won't pm.

Buy with a credit card that offers price protection.

The best buy one is with touch bar or it's the same model?

Just the receipt is required for price protection from cc?

In my experience it's been the receipt showing the item and date of purchase plus the ad showing the lower price, retailer, date of as, and same product number. This of course depends if your credit card offers this benefit.

Many of the latest models don't have an upgrade/maintenance avenue for memory or hdd/ssd/etc. Apple treating laptops as consumables. So, I stay away from such design.

Replacing the battery on a laptop helps to make it last.

That's what I'm thinking too. We'll either see more price drops. But I actually was a Win diehard. But with resale and quality of MacBook I'm sort of giving up. I just want them to come out with a 1080 MacBook air, 8 gigs ram and 256 ssd would be nice. If they'd offer 150mx graphics they'd kill the market.
