I own both the a6000 and x-e2. I find myself liking the x-e2 more. The out of body jpegs are excellent and the overall ux of the camera feels more natural to me. The fuji lens lineup also crushes Sonys E mounts in my opinion.

The a6000 does have a better evf imo (xe2 has better color but worse refresh and lag), and is 100% superior for any video you want to take. The a6000 also has a higher mp, though that doesn't really matter that much for the normal hobbiest.

I'd recommend the x-e2 for someone who doesn't want to mess with raws or doesnt plan to take many videos. A good lens to go with it would be the 18-55mm 'kit' lens.

Why the "kit lens" so expensive!

That's because the KIT isn't on sale -- only the camera body is.

And its more expensive than others, because it starts at f/2.8, I guess (most kits start at f/3.5).

If you want the lens... buy it separately. I recommend used on Craigslist or eBay.

But you can also try JET, etc, if you want new ($340):

The kit lens is really good. Full metal construction and superb image quality. Makes the kits from Canon, Sony, etc look like cheap toys lol

If there's one lens to get it would be that one imo. And it is pretty affordable as far as lenses go Smilie

Because Fuji "kit" lenses are superior compared to canon/Nikon

If you want portability and a simple setup, I can see how these cameras can be popular. However, the flexibility of dslr's will open one up to another universe of seeing the world.
I'd disagree -- mirrorless offer a lot of options like adapting legacy glass, being more portable, etc. I used to shoot with a DSLR but have since moved completely to mirrorless setups, and more and more pros are switching from their DSLRs to the A9/A7riii and kin

I've actually looked into adaptors for Nikon glass when contemplating the Sony a6000, but found out that these are all rubbish and they cost 350? Are you kidding me? If you want native Sony glass, be ready to sacrifice one of your limbs. No matter how good the body, without good glass, it's nothing. When one calculates all the details and costs of choosing a mirrorless system versus a tried and true system like Canon and Nikon, the feature of a "lighter" camera is reduced to a near zero.

Flexibility of dslrs? What? Open one up to another universe of seeing the world? What on Earth are you talking about?

Fact of the matter is, both dslrs and mirrorless cameras offer the same range of image quality across different brands and lines. One uses a live sensor readout and one uses optics to compose through the lens.

Both are totally viable options, but there is no inherent benefit to shooting with a DSLR. It's all about preference.

The only conceivable benefit that dslrs "open your universe up to" is a larger range of lenses, particularly when it comes to fast super telephotos primes or other specialty lenses like tilt-shift. For the average to prosumer photographer, you're going to be covered whether you go canon/Nikon or Sony/Fuji/micro43 (arguably has the best lens lineup even compared to dslrs).

Please don't disseminate false information about some perceived additional capability that is limited to only dslrs. In many ways, the dslr is a a dinosaur and it's days are numbered outside of professional sports and wildlife use cases.
