Lowes.com has Husqvana 42" 19 18.5 Briggs & Stratton Riding Mower (YTA18542) on sale for $1199 you can then easily use a Lowes 10% off coupon to get it to $1079.10 before delivery and taxes. For me delivery is $84. Bringing the total before taxes to $1163.10. Some of you may be luck enough to find one in stock in your area and get free delivery or in store pickup.

This is the automatic CVT transmission not the Hydrostatic.

It's very similar to a deal on a Craftsman 42" rider posted here last year.

Edit: This needs changing to YMMV. I have done some research and see that it is not on sale in all parts of the country but is in many. Also confirmed that if you find one in stock in your area you don't have to pay the delivery fee and can still select Lowes truck delivery to get it delivered. You need to use brickseek (link below) to find one in stock within 100 miles of your delivery address. If you do, and its on sale in your area you can get this delivered for $1079.10 plus tax.

I was lucky enough to grab the big brother YTA24V48 about 2 months ago when they had it on clearance for 1499. Used 10% coupon, Chase signup and Top for like $240 back. Total was around 1270. Love the tractor.

After researching riding mowers for about 6 months, including visiting local repair shops I decided not to get a husky. I would spend the extra and get a Cub Cadet or a John Deere

All the lowes and HD power equip is sub standard. Cheaper metals, thinner, weaker parts and Smaller engines. Go to a local dealer pay the extra $200-300 and in a few years you'll be glad u did.

Actually the Husqvarna models all have the same size engine on the same models whether you go to an authorized dealer or a box store. I checked service manuals on the YTA24V48 before I purchased it and the service manuals are the same. The Deere models you find at the box stores are much lower end models then you find at the dealerships and the price difference shows. I believe MTD makes the lower end Deere.

Some of the bad reviews on the Husqvarna are because people don't understand how the transmission works. They don't realize the less you press down the peddle the more torque you have. Like I said I love mine so far, but remember it's a riding lawn mower, not a garden tractor so it really depends on your needs...

I'm looking for a similar tractor/mower to mow a 3/4 acre plot. I like the price, but way too many negative reviews on broken transmissions. I'm leaning towards the John Deere. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't consider a lower end Deere. I would read this: https://todaysmower.com/seven-bes...-for-2018/

Actually the John Deere and Cub Cadet mowers are all the same at the box stores or dealers. The dealers, just have better models to choose from as well.
Huskvarna makes their own mowers, JD makes all theirs too. MTD is making the Cub XT1 and XT2 series.

I was thinking of getting the e170. Was hoping not to spend that much, but either I spend it or hire it out.

Do you guys recommend the service plan on these for $400-500.

Make sure the service plan is through your local dealer. If it is through a box store then skip because using non-oem parts will be difficultor impossible to find and could void your warranty.

Talk to your local dealer first.
