I have 5 of these in a NAS, they do run noticeably louder than the WD Black I have in my desktop.

Listen to this person. It will work fine in a desktop, it is just geared towards NAS devices and their behavior.

Have 4 of the 4TB running in my home-build NAS. Only one has dropped/died so far. Only sux was the return policy (I couldn't get 'em to cross-ship); but they were very quick on the return once it arrived at their facility.

I had the same experience. 4TB started getting some bad sectors, started the RMA, shipped and back to me in about 9 days. Great drive but when it goes bad good service.

Are these still pretty loud? I took 2 2TBs out of a GRAID enclosure and put them in a NAS and they're pretty loud. Granted they're about 4 years old so not sure if things have changed. Thanks!

Got the 8TB variant, they are definitely louder than most drives.

I've have 2 of these for about 1.5 years in a Lenovo IX2 2-bay NAS. One failed within a year, and now the 2nd one has failed. I'm thinking it is a problem with the IX2 rather than the drives. I need to upgrade to a better NAS.

Anyway, as others have said, RMA process has been fairly easy, just takes a little bit of time.
