If you have a computer that still has IDE, it's time to replace the entire computer.

We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?

Ditto. Well past time. They have not made consumer IDE machines for probably close to a decade. Consumer IDE drives are no longer manufactured since I think 2013. Ridiculous to be spending more money trying to fix something that obsolete imo.

My last machine with IDE was built in 2006 and it died a violent death 5 years ago.

I did have a Intel X58 Express chipset (2008) that had IDE on it yet and even at that time everything had been SATA for 5+ years. So OP could have a newer system that had both but I agree it's probably time for a complete replacement. Hard to say with so little explanation and no details.
