I made the mistake of purchasing this a few years ago. It was amazing for the first year we had it. Then one day during year 2 I came home to a shattered table. It literally shattered for no reason at all. I remembered being able to find similar stories online when I started researching this issue. I definitely would not recommend if you have kids.

Not sure exactly why people are having a issue w the glass, i would assume it's more of a improper install or an inadequate number of locking clips, it is tempered glass and rarely does it shatter on its own, having had this style of table top design in the past i know the plastic clips often crack from dry rot, it wouldn't hurt to add a hefty bead of silicone in various places around the edge where the clips aren't present, more than likely what is happening is the aluminum heats up and cracks the plastic than the glass becomes loose, than it's just a matter of time before the glass gets a nice bang against the aluminum, the rodent squirrels could be to blame even. But w some precautions you shouldn't have a problem, my glass top has been outside for 10+ years w/out any issues

I have had this for three years in Chicago with now shattering. I wonder if this was a problem that they fixed at some point. I paid $299 plus some other discounts. This is a great price.

I had $109.39 in points available that would've expired on the 8th and I was in need of a new patio set. Got this for $152.50 after tax out the door. I'm happy with my purchase. Just hope I'm happy with the set and there are no glass issues.

Shattering glass was still a problem this past year something to do with how the glass cured during manufacturing

How does this one compare to the one posted from Home Depot at $299? Other than the HD one having padded sling chairs?

Edit: nevermind I've read enough reviews to decide for the HD one. Plus, this really should be YMMV, as my local Sears has it for $299 for pickup and $250 for delivery (plus $70 delivery fee)

I've had this set for about 5 years. I always cover it up when not in use, and it's held up great. No problem with the glass table, and no rust.

FYI-The Hampton Bay version at HD has a tile top table. No worries about glass breaking...just tile breaking, but you can replace them easily with any color you like.

Have this one. Been moving it into the shed every winter in case of shattering. Should have gotten the tiled version instead. The bottom of the spinning chairs keep falling out when you pick it up to move. They don't rock either, just spin. Didn't realize it until after we put everything together.

How is someone's table breaking due to a manufacturing error funny?

Because at $250 you would expect an outdoor patio table NOT to shatter
