is there a trick to get out of the $99 bucks?
There used to be, but from what i've heard, The contract terms between Southwest & chase have become much more strict throughout the years so now it's nearly impossible to get annual fees waived.

If already have companion pass for 2018, and earn 110,000 points in 2018, what will happen?

I have had success in the past sending them a secure message from within' your account.
I just politely asked if I could get the better offer and they credited my account.
No guarantees but worth a shot.

So any tips/pointers on applying for this business card if you don't actually have a bonafide business?

From the chase business ink card post. You can try applying as a "side job", using your social instead of a business tax ID. Mine got denied cause they said I had "Too many new cards in the last 24 months"... I had the AARP card a few months ago. Lame.
