FREE Fed+State tax returns if made less than $66k

If your household earned less than $66,000 in 2017, you can file both your federal and state returns for free using MyFreeTaxes.com. This is the only free, national, online tax filing product offered by a nonprofit. United Way has made it available to over 100 million U.S. taxpayers as part of our fight for the financial stability of every person in every community.

"Free" doesn't always mean free.

Some "free" tax preparation products only offer federal (not state) filings, or charge extra for anything beyond the most basic forms. MyFreeTaxes is completely free for individuals and families who earned less than $66,000 in 2017 — whether you file in multiple states, work freelance, have a side gig, or earn investment income.

MyFreeTaxes is powered by H&R Block's premium software, so filing is easy, secure, and guaranteed to be 100% accurate. The software scans for any tax credit you're entitled to, making sure you get your maximum refund. If you have questions along the way, IRS-certified specialists are ready to answer your questions in real time.

Sounds great if you're fearless in giving a site that few may have heard of one's SS# and personal information.

Sure, I've heard of them, and this says it uses their software. I assume that doesn't necessarily mean it is isolated to using H&R Block servers alone, or that this site doesn't see any of the data inputed.

Always be careful when making comments based on "assume(ing)" something. Go read the website, give them a call and then maybe you can post from a position of knowledge, rather than assuming. Unless that would be too much work....

I am against H&R block for all the silly mistakes that caused delays in filing a W7, getting my refund incorrect, and making me go for amendments while i turned out I filed it correctly the first time. I would rather go with freetaxusa or a reputable local CPA. H&R block people just avoided me when I went it with a complaint, and the fulltime guy said "he is not going to fix one more mistake the (parttimer who did mine) did...

Sorry to hear of your problems. I have used both Intuit/Turbo tax and H&R Block over the years with no problems to report. Sure, some of the UI was a PITA and could be better designed but happily, nothing went wrong with my returns.

Sorry, If this thread is only for the software, then it is ok. I was talking about the H&R block office. They bring in part timers around tax time who make a lot of mistakes. the fulltime people are better equipped and research before telling something.
