Advantages of ips are better color and better veiwing angle. Disadvantage would be hight input lag. All generally speaking because there are model to model variances. I think its more of preference. I am using LG IPS right now but I dont mind TN as a computer monitor because color can be calibrated and vewing angle doesn't matter when you are sitting right in front of desk/monitor. I never understood why people have so much love for IPS and so much hate for TN.

I've always been anti-4K computer monitors but at this price, I may have to convert. I've has nothing but great experiences with Woot and am more than comfortable with the factory refurb monitors.

Is there a downside I'm missing here?
TN is less desirable but the price is too good even for TN board. 1ms is always good for gaming. If you went over budget with your 4k gaming build this could help offset the high gpu price.

Was expecting this to be an IPS panel before viewing the specs and after thinking a/b this here I saw earlier today: https://slickdeals.net/f/11460559-lg-27ud59-b-27-ultra-hd-ips-4k-freesync-monitor-75hz-at-costco-260-sh-265... Really had my hopes up after I seen the thumbnail of this deal in my email, smh.

Is this better than say, the Sceptre U278W?

I'm looking for one right now but I'm confused with that one.

Depends on whether you can put up with a TN panel. They are a lot better than they used to be, but if you've been using an IPS panel you will probably be disappointed.

About $70 off the brand-new price.... probably should be cheaper.

Responding to above poster asking why not 4K: Everyone has their own preference but I feel 4K at 28" or even 30" is hard to read text, even sitting close up. Unfortunately Windows 10 text/UI scaling sucks. Some apps follow it well and some don't. Mac OS handles scaling much better though.

At 27-30" I find 1440p to be ideal. Maybe 4K if you go 35+ inch but then you're in TV screen territory.

That said, if you're looking for a 4K screen at this size and don't mind the TN panel this looks like a good deal.

What is an IPS panel? And why is it better than TN panels?
