Looking a little more on the Acer site at this one (NX.GP4AA.015) vs the similar one on Amazon (NX.GG5AA.005) for the same price, it would appear this one actually has the i3-7130U processor which is 2.7Ghz, compared to what the Walmart listings says is the i3-71000U of 2.4Ghz. If true, this is even a better deal than the Amazon one since it has an extra 4Gb of RAM and the faster chip. However perhaps it really is the 7100U and the Acer site is wrong.

No optical drive on this one, the Amazon one does have an optical drive. This one also has a bigger battery and a half pound lighter and a bit thinner.

This laptop has maintenance hatch to access the Ram slots and HDD without removing the back cover. See the Interactive Product Tour section in the Walmart product page. For accessing the M.2 Slot, however, you have to open the full back cover.
Regarding your question about the version with SSD, nobody is going to swap it with a HDD because that will be foolish to do. People can simply keep the SSD in the M.2 slot and add a 2.5" drive, SSD or HDD, to the 2.5" Bay and keep the SSD + HDD combination.

Here is a SPECCY if anyone was curious about the hardware:

ACER Aspire 5 A515-51-3509 Product page:
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/con....GP4AA.015

Drivers page:
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/con...oduct/7239
Laptop ships with BIOS v1.02. The current BIOS version as of my post is v1.15, which resolves a number of issues, including performance improvements.

Hard drive replacement page (ex; for HDD => SSD):
https://us.answers.acer.com/app/a...d-a515-51g
The included HDD is a Western Digital WDC WD10SPZX-21Z10T0 (1TB 5400RPM SATA3)
There is an M.2 port available once your remove the entire back cover. M.2 Type M.

Ships with 8GB total:
4GB is on the motherboard + 4GB DDR4 ram is installed. Can be upgraded to 20GB total, by replacing the 4GB DDR4 with a 16GB DDR4.

I got the 4Gb ram version of this for same price on Amazon, so this is a better deal. Computer was super slow until I got a M.2 SSD for it, now it is very responsive.

I have this laptop. Upgraded to SSD and get about 6-8 hours of battery life so for the price you really can't beat it

this is a pretty decent laptop, so it'll do more than just watching Netflix.

Apologies for the random, noob query, but it's been a long time since I've done an HDD install on a laptop. For this laptop was it pretty straightforward? I'm assuming it was a simple 1-4x screws and popping off a cover for access... I guess I'll find out since I just bought it (free returns FTW).

Also, for installing what the computer came with on the SSD, can you perform a "recovery" USB stick before doing the HDD swap?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I believe he is asking how to transfer what comes installed on the HDD to a new SSD if he wants to swap it out.

That's indeed what I was asking. Did some reading and found out how to do it. Will play/experiment when I get it in my hands.
