That would be the Pipe Slide or Advance models. Both of those also have the Advanced Kuru Toga engine, which turns the lead twice as fast to keep it sharper.

I bought the Roulette model first (same engine as this in a skinnier metal frame), and it's definitely better than a regular pencil but it doesn't turn fast enough for me. I write with a print / cursive mix, so I still ended up turning the pencil manually every few words. Since then I bought a Kuru Toga Pipe Slide version which has the advanced engine and now I don't have to turn the pencil any more. The tip also retracts in the Pipe Slide version, so it's not a hazard in your pocket. laugh out loud It's definitely worth the extra couple bucks on Amazon. (I thought of getting the 0.3mm version, but it rotates at the same rate as the standard model, and with a thinner lead it would flatten out faster.)

Kuru Toga Standard / Roulette = requires 40 taps for full lead rotation
Kuru Toga Advance / Pipe Slide = only 20 taps for full lead rotation

I make a lot of mistakes. Is there enough eraser here for people like me. I have been married 3 times.

This is a great price for a great pencil. I ordered a couple on separate orders for the no rush. Extra plus that it's not an add on item.

I have a couple of them and they are very good for the price. There are better pencils, but those cost a LOT more! For the price, these are VERY hard to beat!

Actually... I have the Roulette version, slight upgrade but nearly 3x the price of this deal. This is a really good deal for these regardless.

Agree with the previous posts. I started using these when I learned Japanese in college and needed a fine point pencil to write kanji. Pretty much the only type of pencil I've used since.

Does the sharp tip retract, so that it's not as likely to poke you?

No, the metal part doesn't retract.

OK, thanks for the quick reply/info. Would have been even nicer if it did.

This version does not. There is a "pipe slide" version that is slightly newer. That one does have the metal part retractable. Much nicer for pocket carry.
