Exactly why we chose to spend the money to go to Hawaii with my aging parents.

Cancun is at the center of a cartel turf battle. They used to leave the touristy areas alone, but not so much anymore.....

This has to be the Grand Mayan Hotel. In the post it says it has Cirque Du Soleil's JOYA, and the Grand Mayan has it exclusively. I stayed at the one in Riviera Maya (Cancun) and it was really nice.

The Cancun murders are occurring in the non-tourist areas of Cancun, and are targeted strikes. Is there a chance of a tourist being involved, sure, but no more than if you visited a tourist area in NYC, or Chicago, etc. Now, a couple years from now, if the murders progress out of the locals areas, and get to the Hotel Zone of Cancun, then you will see this area get deserted. Just like Acapulco has become.

I generally agree with your statement, but they did blow up a tourist ferry a couple of months ago........

There are less riskier places to spend your hard earned time and money. Mexico is an unpleasant place to vacation. Even if this trip was free, it would still not be worth my time.
Yea...no.

Mexico is a beautiful place that I've been to several times with incredibly friendly people, rich culture and history, and fantastic beaches and places to relax or explore.

Yes, they are in a period of increased violent crime, but thats no different than some major American cities.

Cancun is like Miami Beach on steroids. I'll remember it fondly in it's heydays of the 80's-early 2000 before it became overbuilt and overused.

Stick with Nuevo Vallarta and from there get out and see the sights. I've been using PV as my base to visit Mexico for 30 years. Never a problem, great food, warm people, beautiful scenery, enjoy.
