These are flagship tier cans that have come down on price over the years. My only reservation on these is the highs have a sharp edge to them that I personally have to stay away. It's a trait common in Beyers line of headphones that some people enjoy for the sense of details but can bother some others. Generally very enjoyable and an excellent entry to the end-game level cans at this price.

Closest comparison is probably the HD800/HD800s. Both open back and made in Germany. They are suppose to have great soundstage and separation. I have tried both HD800 and own a pair of HD800s. At this price point, I'm tempted to try these.

Had these for over a year now, can't believe I paid $900+ - very clear and detailed but lately I'm riding them to be a boring sounding. Think it's time to sell and try something new. Any recommendations...

HD800s or Hifiman Edition X/HE1000 if you are willing to spend. I have tried most of the endgames cans including Utopia, etc. Those are the 2 I ended with. The Edition X is probably the best value and sounds good with portable gear. HE1000 and HD800/800s are high amp dependent.

This is an amazing deal. I paid 450 on eBay for a used V1 of these. I have both the hd800 and the t1, both have their benefits. Great deal. Tempted.

The focal is tempting too. What do you use to drive them?

At that time my best amp was Woo Audio WA8 Eclipse. It's a great amp and Focal even auditioned the Utopia with the Wa8 at trade shows. I didn't like the Utopia because it is kind of uncomfortable for my head, the sound is very closed sounding for an open headphone. It's also too bright for me even with a tube amp. This is typical for Utopia. One school loves them and the other school just don't like them. They are beautiful headphones though. Gorgeous to look at.

Right now I have McIntosh MHA100. I do wish I still have the Utopia to see how they sound with a true endgame amp.

Interesting! Thank you. I auditioned them with a McIntosh and they sounded amazing for headphones (compared to my hd800/t1) but no where near as good as my speakers ....

LOL. I just updated my post to say I have McIntosh MHA100 now. I never got to listen to the Utopia with them as I sold the Utopia first.

My problem now is that I auditioned Sennheiser HE1 Orpheus 2 weeks ago for 1 hour. Now everything sounds inadequate. I'm forever chasing HE1.

I'm waiting for Iconian to post a deal on the HE1. At least I want free shipping.

I'll be honest. These didn't wow me like I thought they would. The $149 880's sounded pretty close.
