Been this price for a few weeks now. I have two of them and both run very hot. Speeds also slow down, sometimes to 3-5 mb/sec when transferring files for a few minutes (say 8-10GB total). I also have the Samsung (white ones, FIT model) and they got warm but not hot like these. The Samsungs also dont slow down as much, keeping to around 30 mb/sec even when transferring files for a while. That said, for $15.99, good price.

Looking for one of these. Do you have a model number or link for the Samsung?

Sounds like the new model has the same old problems, been reading about overheating problems for years on these, that's why I went with a Samsung flash drive with the same form factor as this, no overheating issues.

For thumb drives with overheating issues, is that only when they're being used, or even when idle? If the latter, can't people just wait a few seconds before removing them after use? The fact that they get so hot also means that they're excellent heat sinks and will quickly dissipate their heat after use.
I had one of the older USB 3.0 models like this in the USB port on my cars stereo and it got so hot that is melted the plastic surrounding it to where I could not remove it.

this is the one i also use. it is better made than the new sandisk 3.1 which feels super light but like a plastic toy.

yes only when being used, no while idle. they do both dissipate the heat fairly quickly after use. but the sandisk gets much hotter. look at the amazon reviews of the sandisk, both the 3.0 and newer 3.1 version.

Should be that one, I have it and it runs warm, but not hot. My SanDisk one got really hot.

I have the 32GB version of this drive and it gets so hot while transferring (after <1GB) that it will start doing this disconnect/connect thing very rapidly. When I pull it out, it's almost too hot to touch. I have to put it in the freezer for a few minutes, then quickly put it in the computer and transfer files before it starts doing it again.
