Great headphones at $150. I bought a pair for around this price, they're pretty lightweight with V-shaped sound and are a good amount of fun. Comfy, easy to wear for long periods although the leather/pleather pads do get sweaty when it's warm.

Not sure where i'd place these now since the game has changed a bit. Most people are going to pay tax at BB, so these end up being $160-165ish for most. Massdrop has been regularly featuring the Sennheiser 6XX for $199, along with HiFi Man HE 400i going on sale for $180 pretty often.

A couple years ago, the Sony's would have been solid at this price. Now they're priced pretty close the Sennheisers and the HiFiMan which are more serious headphones IMO. The Sonys are light and easy to travel with, the Sennheisers are far more neutral, but also more detailed. I haven't tried HE 400i, but have tried 560i and they have clear highs and sound more open than the 6XX (not better just different). The Sony by comparison sounded a bit muddy.

I sold my MDR-1A after purchasing 6XX. So If you have a chance to listen to the Sony vs. the Senn 650 (similar to 6XX) it might help. Again, these would have been solid at $150 a couple years back, but now there are so many options in the sub-200 range. I didn't even bring up the AKG-7XX series which are also wonderful and IMO in a class above the Sony as well.

Same price in Amazon (148) but does anyone know how they compare with ATH M50 X?

Comfier. Better mids. Similar exaggerated bass but a bit more tight. Detachable 3.5mm compared to 2.5mm, but Sony's got a weird connector to it that makes a lot of 3.5mm not connect tightly. Love them more than my m50.

Been this price for a while on eBay.

All I care about is if it'll hurt my head with extended use. I had the AT ATX-70m or whatever and they are REALLY tight on the head.

Because this model has been out over 3 years, you can find a lot of range in prices on used, refurb, and "new other" open box on eBay...but $148 is a very good price for new from an authorized dealer and not at all the normal price (check eBay sales history) This is a very good price.

A lot less pressure from the start than the Audio Technica ATH-XXm series. Plus, like the ATH, you can stretch the metal band. But a lot more comfortable from the start for big heads.

I did not keep mine because on a lot of tracks the bass was just too much, and not controlled enough, for my taste. They are not vintage Beats in that regard, but not accurate to my ears. Lots of people will love them.

I bought these around black friday for this price. I guess you could say the bass is exaggerated but they really are a fun pair headphones if you are into EDM (and presumably hip hop, R&B, though I don't listen to it). The bass is well controlled. If you want a more neutral sound signature, probably go with something else (maybe Sennheiser 598's?). Also these are much more comfortable than the M50x's in my opinion since they have less clamping pressure.

How does this compare to Massdrop x Sennheiser 580 Jubilee?

picked up a pair of these a few weeks ago for $120 refurb (they were essentially brand new).

I've got pretty "tender" ears. These have been very comfortable though they do get hot and sweaty a bit.

I bought some of these covers to cut down on the sweatiness
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017ZL3KS0/

They retarded the treble and sound stage a bit so I ended up cutting out a hole in the middle of them.

Now the headphones are super comfy and not sweaty.

They sound awesome (for a non-audiophile with no comparison)

Having the at50s, 500x, sens 6xx and akg 7xx...i prefer the 7xx over anything else... And for $200 they are a great deal. That said... Need an amp to run those and the 6xx...Well I also have the Sony 900 n.2 for noise canceling and they are great but that's a different category.

I guess my point is that by the time you factor in tax, there are a LOT of solid options 7xx, 6xx, 400i, etc.
