I don't have this model but I've used an older spyder 3 before and I am currently using the i1 display pro for the past few years, color calibrators help you tune your displays either through manually adjusting your monitor with the adjustment menu buttons, or through software as a display profile that it creates and saves. It cannot make a cheap screen great, there are limits to how much a screen can adjust its colors/brightness/blacks. A calibration unit will try and make your screen colors as accurate as possible but you have to start with a decent screen. If you have a good screen, but poor color calibration, it will skew all your colors and any edits you do will look off on other screens/prints.

This can help to calibrate any display, but does not come with software to calibrate a display that is not connected directly as a "monitor" to a computer, i.e. a TV. For that you will have to use a third party app. A free one is HCFR [sourceforge.net], but it does not show that it supports this version of Spyer, just says it supports to version 4. I have a i1Pro and much prefer it to my old Spyder, put at this price, it's a very good deal.

Stupid question - does this just "check/verify" color gamuts or does it actually "improve" them?

No unfortunately it needs to read pixels emanating light versus the reflection of light off a screen or wall of sorts

edit: I have a similar model and love it. great for color replication on monitors for photo related applications. having an appropriate icc monitor profile as well as if from your print shops or printers will help reduce the guesswork out of your images being printed.

Thanks. Always wanted one of these.
Wish I had one back in the day using my old Wacom 21ux. That thing gave off warm colors in a very noticeable way.

Will this work with a Vizio 4K HDR TV? I've really been wanting to calibrate my M65-D0 TV and haven't been able to identify which Spyder device to use. I would prefer to be able to use it for multiple TVs and multiple monitors.

Thanks

Ugh. Is it really worth it? I was hoping I wouldn't find something new to buy on slick deals.
