Amazon Warehouse Deal - 20% off 2017 Xperia Devices (XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium)

Not sure how long this will last, but wanted to post in case anyone was looking to pick up a relatively new Xperia flagship device: XZ1, XZ1 Compact or XZ Premium.

Looks like Amazon Warehouse is taking 20% off their open-box Xperia 2017 line. I just snagged an XZ1 (Venus Pink) for $355.03 after tax:

$416.70 (Like New) - 20% off + sales tax = 355.03

Can be even cheaper if you change colors or get a "Very Good" unit versus like new. Search for the device you want, and then Amazon Warehouse takes off 20% at checkout.

(Fingerprint can be enabled via an easy software flash if you are so inclined)

Thanks!

Check out the XZP offers with this. I found a "very good" condition one that's ~ 385 after tax.
4K screen, s835 and 64 gigs. Not a bad deal if you don't want to deal with some of the BOGO hassle on the S9. This would make a great phone for movie/audio on the go.

Though if you can take advantage of BOGOs, might be better off with the S9 or newer flagships.

Tempted by this as I want a XZ1 Compact, but buying "used" I'm guessing there is no warranty on them other than the Amazon 30 day return?

Unless you get lucky and it still has warranty.

Just a heads up that Amazon Warehouse is a total crap shoot with used devices. Their rating system is very inconsistent. I purchased two "like new" phones that arrived with very obvious wear, nowhere close to "like new." While returns are usually easy, I had one bonehead rep that wanted to argue that even though it was listed as "like new" it was expected to look used. If anyone needs it, here is the link to their own standards: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=olp_cg_pop?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200143590&pop-up=... [amazon.com]

I used Amazon warehouse several times in the past for phones, including the Honor 8, Nextbit Robin, and Moto Z Play (2016).

A couple notes:
1. I agree that it is completely rolling the dice on the quality. The Honor 8 was "Like New" and had numerous scratches on the front and back. Barely "acceptable" IMO

Because of that, I bought 2 Moto Z Play's with the intent to return one. Both came in almost perfect condition. The Robin was also great quality, but the phone isn't just wasn't that quality (camera quality, etc).

2. Both Moto phones still had 9 months of warranty when I checked on Moto's website, but it will also likely be dependent on the individual phone you get.

3. Amazon warehouse usually allows 30 days of returns. So you can buy with confidence and return it if the quality isn't as expected. With good quality, it works out well, with bad initial quality it's just the hassle of a return.

OP, you say "Fingerprint can be enabled via an easy software flash if you are so inclined". Do you have more info?

I did some research on this in the past, and it didn't seem that easy, at least with also keeping Android Pay and VoLTE compatibility in the USA. XDA had a thread that talked about which files you have to mix and match of the various ROMs/firmware but it seemed like an OTA update would also re-disable it if it overwrote the files.

Before you had to use Newflasher, but now you can actually use Flashtool like with previous devices (as of January). If you do end up flashing, say, Euro FW, you may lose out on some US Carrier specific functionality.

Which functionality? VoLTE isn't as important to me as it is to others; but while Google Pay isn't a necessity, I consider it possibly equal to the fp reader since I use both almost every day.

I was interested in this phone before this deal, and I guess all I'm saying is that is not a simple "switch the firmware and you're good". It's more like, "make the switch and you can turn on the fp reader, but know tradeoffs X, Y, and Z". To me, your line in the OP didn't convey the trade-off appropriately.

Either way. Thumbs up for the deal.

Appreciate the feedback. Yes, I was speaking specifically about VoLTE - I'll be more specific next time around when it comes to loss of functionality.

Cheers

It is very easy to do, I could walk you through it if needed. Really you swap one file from US firmware to a euro folder and flash the whole thing. I have volte /wifi calling and fp on my xz1c

Appreciate the offer, but I'm aware of the process Peace

I was under the impression VoLTE won't work on the XZ1 or XZ Premium... only the XZ1 Compact. I have AT&T anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Received my XZ1 in 100% mint condition, though it had a few fingerprints on it. All accessories were included, though the box was a little beat up.

In case anyone is wondering, I flashed the UAE firmware via Flashtool -- it seems it gets updated just as often as the customized US variant.
