I vaguely understand the pricing structure of Stratocasters, Telecasters, Les Pauls and Gretsches but a $600 SG is a mystery to me. Can someone please explain the difference between a $2000 SG and this one? Ever since becoming a Greta Van Fleet fan I have to have one Smilie

Well. It got ok-ish pickups but very cheap finish and often overall craftsmanship is not that great. Normal price is about 750-800. This model is decent value proposition if you must have a gibson. I personally think that Schecter deal for 470 is a much better deal.

I picked up a Gibson Les Paul Tribute model (~$800) at the end of last year. Quality is pretty damn good. Though I am always weary of buying a guitar online as YMMV, and q.c. is hit or miss on "value" models. Always thought I needed a Jaguar, almost ordered one from Adorama but decided I should play it first... glad I did, wasn't for me.

One of the many reasons why they're flirting with bankruptcy.

I almost like it. My only reservation is that it resembles a muffin top ginger.

I have a 50s Tribute that is prettt solid too, but there are MUCH better offerings at and below that price from Epiphone and Agile to name two...

The Tony Iommi SG from Epi will smash any Gibson at that price point, too. It's $349 more but SO worth it. Everyone seems to be OOS right now, but more on the way... https://www.sweetwater.com/store/...gKY7vD_BwE

If you are a fan of Greta Van Fleet you should check out Led Zepplin.

That has very little to do with why they're flirting with bankruptcy (although it would be nice if their lack of QC came back to bite them). People are still lining up to buy overpriced Les Pauls. Their financial woes stem from about half a billion dollars in debt coming up this summer as well as under performing in the consumer electronics market.

Am waiting for Gibson 2018 LP Tribute. Did you get the 2017 or 2018? 2018 comes with a new soft case, which I think is a must have.

I'd say it's one of MANY reasons why they're flirting with bankruptcy. They do make quality high-end guitars but the quality of their low to mid-tier guitars have tanked. I hate the majority of Fenders body styles but have stuck with them because the sound for the money is too good to pass up. I went guitar shopping a few months ago for an SG though because I love that body style and ended up leaving with a superior sounding (and $400 cheaper) Gretsch.

That along with them not lowering production based on the current low demand for guitars, their terrible corporate culture/high employee turnover, and them having rock artists lierally call out Gibson in the press are why they're flirting with disaster.

The quality may have tanked but people are still buying them. The guitar side of their business is still profitable although revenues have dropped from years past. In the words of their CEO, the guitar side is "sustainable."
