This is the best browsing/media consumption CPU for the price. Too bad RAM is still pricey for me to do another Asrock deskmini build.

Tempting, all right, but only about a quarter faster than the old very overclockable G3258 that hit the market almost 4 years ago, and was less than $50 3 years ago (and had a lower TDP and used cheaper DDR3).

Personally, with DDR4 prices what they are I'd consider spending a bit more on the CPU, the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G is $95 now at Newegg, I believe, and has much better on board graphics (if that is a concern) and is 46% faster. The Intel i3-8100 is $89 at Fry's occasionally (if you can jump on it while there is free shipping, they keep playing games with that) and is 65% faster. When you figure you are going to be spending ~$90 on RAM coughing up a bit more on a processor makes sense to me.

RAM + CPU is perhaps a quarter more expensive, but you get 45-65% more performance.

But the g4560 will work with ddr3 if you can find a 1151 ddr3 board and flash it to accept kaby lake

Thanks.

Newegg search filter finds motherboards for DDR3 that are very expensive and few offered.

I use this with 8gb of ram and a couple ssds and hdds in a small form factor case. Also added a 1050ti and it's amazing as a steam box and plex server.

Keep searching "1151 ddr3" , eventually NewEgg will have open or refurbs for $60-70, there in perfect shape as people return them as they did not notice its for ddr3 or it wont work with Kaby. The ignorant returners loose out on the deal.
