Best Buy deal of the day:

2 chromecasts for $50. I saw the target deal but figured if you have BB gift cards and need multiple, it's a good deal.

I have two of the original Chromecasts.. are these significantly better in any way?

I do have trouble with certain apps connecting or staying connected.. not sure if it's the app or the Chromecast... or my WiFi/ISP...

Which apps? I have originals still as well, no trouble but we might only use the common apps too...

This one will add 5ghz instead of only 2.4ghz on the gen. 1 version. That alone is worth the upgrade to me.

I have two of the 1st gen as well. FX will play video with high quality but will get a freeze frame every few minutes.

If you're having those problems I recommend getting a new version. We were having problems with freezing, buffering, and inability to stay connected for the NHL app and were using an original Chromecast. After changing our router, ISP, etc., with no luck, we finally thought to get a new Chromecast and it has been problem free ever since.

For example: I was using the AMC app last night to watch The Walking Dead and.. every so often, the video will jump back a few seconds and repeat itself. Which isn't a big deal, except down the line it'll sync back up and skip ahead a few seconds.

I don't use the AMC app, but from reading other comments sounds like it might be worth the upgrade. I'm considering it for the 5 ghz capability.

Target has these for $25, just in case you only want one. The ultra was $10 off as well.

I saw it in store last night and just confirmed the price is still good online today.

I cut the cable awhile back and have been using YouTube TV and I highly recommend upgrading for that service. First gen even puts an warning on screen that performance may not be optimal. There would be a long delay while video loaded. No longer a problem with the second gen.
