I'm glad it's warming up in South Carolina because we've been able to get out and fish a good bit already, but this little Ozark Trail All-Species 5'-6" Spinning Combo Kit [walmart.com] for only $7.29 should be decent for anybody that wants a decent rod and reel with a little tackle kit to take with them. Amazon has it on sale for $19.52 [amazon.com] right now.

No, it's not a high-end kit, but for something simple to throw in the back of the car to have ready to go fish on a bank or on a kayak with, this kit ought to be pretty decent for the money.

I haven't been disappointed with anything Ozark Trail makes yet. If you were to just buy the tackle items separately it'd cost more than this whole kit.

Comes with:

Rod:
5'6" Fiberglass rod with ceramic guides
Graphite reel seat with stainless steel cushioned hoods
EVA split grip

Reel:
1 Ball bearing
Chrome plated spool with line Gear Ratio: 5.2:1
Line capacity (lbs/yds): 6/175,8/135,10/120

Tackle Kit includes:
2 Floats
2 Brass snap swivels
10 Hooks
2 Jig heads
1 Fish stringer
1 Spoon 8 Grubs
2 Sinkers
1 Shad
1 Tackle box

Suggest adding more descriptors to your title like "Fishing rod" or something. I had no idea what this was until seeing the picture.

I would lean towards the Shakespeare kit personally. Nether will be the best combo, but neither is a bad one either.
