Help! monitor power button stuck

I have a Dell flat screen monitor for my desktop. The "push" power button is now stuck, and so, I cannot turn it on. I tried pushing it at different angles but it is stuck.
Anybody have any experience with this? Please help! TIA.

If not, the only thing to do is get a screwdriver, crack open the case and try to get the button un-stuck. Cool

If you open the monitor up DO NOT USE A GROUND STRAP. Make sure the monitor is UNPLUGGED. Be very very careful, there is enough voltage in a monitor, even when it's unplugged, to possibly kill you.

This is kind of a redneck option, but if the button is large enough, you could run a small screw into it just far enough for the threads to catch and pull the button out.
Would save you from opening the thing up.

Don't you mean in a CRT? OP said a flat screen... no way to tell if he/she meant an LCD or a flat CRT

I had the same issue with my Dell 24 inch. Luckily, it was still under warranty. Before I received my replacement, I could get it to turn on by rolling my finger in circles on the power button.

How about super gluing something to the power button so you can pull it out.

Don"t superglue anything to the button because superglue doesn"t stick that well to plastic< but it sticks well enough that it"ll leave a crust that will be impossible to remove completely (and the usual solvent for it, acetone, will dissolve the vinyl or ABS plastic button).

Try making a thin plastic tool that you can slip between the button and surrounding plastic Soda bottle plastic may be thin enough. Another trick is to press thread or dental floss into the gap around the button and pull it so it tucks under the button and lets you grab it and pull.

We have one of these dell LCD monitors at work that has the same problem. I came up with a very simple, cheap, practical solution that is guaranteed 100% to work. Get a power strip with a switch on it. Plug only the monitor into the new power strip and then just use the power strips switch to turn the monitor on and off.

Instead of superglue...you could use some hot glue perhaps??

I would think the clean up of that would be better...

As to the power strip Ideabulb

I think that would be a good thing to do.nod
