It's actually marked down to 449. Even better. Thinking about getting this for school. Looks like it a pretty good deal. Thanks!

I'm trying to figure out how good of a deal this is. It has the touch screen I want, a decent processor. I see it's missing an ssd drive, is that a really big problem? It's only going to be used for school. At 449 with a 20 dollar gift card and a free backpack, how good is a deal is this? Thanks.

It's better than good. Below smoking. Assuming you are comfortable installing an SSD yourself, you can always upgrade later. But under $500 for Asus, new, with 15.6" FHD i5 and 8gb RAM is not every day. It's not once a year. But it's very nice

The biggest issue is that the eighth generation Intel processors are so much better than the seventh generation.

Because for school he needs a rocketship to crunch alien contacting code. 99% chance he could still get by with a $10 core2duo on an SSD. So yes, buy this laptop, put an Ssd Into it and enjoy it for the next 3 years

edit: nvm its 720p. you can find more pleasing basic pcs

Yeah, 15inch with a resolution of 1366x768 isn't amazing. 4.5lbs is also pretty heavy. Otherwise it's a really decent deal. If I needed a laptop, I might bite, but I'm still in the shopping phase and have the benefit of not needing to make a rush decision

I would not recommend this. Battery life isn't great (touchscreen makes it worse). Construction isn't great (keyboard and palm flex affecting your typing experience). 10-key on the keyboard making letter keys off-center. Display isn't good (TN panel with poor viewing angles and 720p resolution). Much bigger problems/issues than lack of an SSD drive IMHO. For $450 you should expect more/better and don't just look at the specs (i5, 8GB, etc). There's much more to a satisfactory laptop experience than specs. You can get a 1080p IPS display and probably better constructed laptop for just a little more $. If you're not in a hurry wait for a deal. They pop up often here on SD. If you need something faster and are on a budget, look for open box deals at BB or on the Dell Outlet. Should be able to find something good for between $450 and $600. One option to consider is the Acer Aspire E 15 for $600 (everyday price) if you need something ASAP. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075F..._lig_dp_it

Thanks, looks like I'm going to hold off. Don't need it for about another 3 weeks so I'll just keep looking.
