Purchasing cutlery should be seen as an investment. These ceramic knives will last a few years and are often brittle with broken tips often a result. Ceramic knives have a hardness of 9 to 9.5 HRC and therefore require specialized sharpening, diamond sharpening essentially. Personally, and a chef, not a fan of ceramic knives.

These were $12.99 plus tax at costco last month without the knife block.

Edit - I was wrong, they were ceramic coated.

but you can use dishwasher on them without any unwanted consequences.
that by itself is well wroth the money.

that been said, knives sets are rarely worth the money unless it is 1000 dollar plus sets. otherwise it is a set full with useless knives that no one would buy individually.

Thanks OP, I haven't opened my costco ceramic coated one... Also didn't realize they weren't full ceramic until now.. quite deceiving. Now i see the steel edges.. I just ordered these. I'm going to return the Costco ceramic coated ones. Thanks!
